Swapped front pads -- what are these round things?

I just swapped out my stock pads for some higher temp Hawk pads and these pads have these giant round circles, almost like handles, which stick out of the caliper. Not planning to run 17" wheels, so I don't think it matters too much, but does anyone know what these are and why they are on the pads?

Incidentally, I found the clips on these calipers to be a pain in the neck compared to other Brembos. Maybe it's just me, but the second pin didn't want to slide through under pressure of the clip when reinstalling pads. I had to use a small screwdriver and rubber mallet to coax the second pin home once it was under the pressure of the clip. i hope the clips relax a bit with age. At first I thought it was the new pads, but I had the same issue when test reinstalling the stock pads.

We called those roller skates on the 5th gen. They were supposedly there to help with the squealing brakes although it never seemed to help with mine.

yes vibration dampeners - to help with noise reduction.
The Brake lube (on the back side) of the pads does more to eliminate squeal in my opinion

Race pads do not have these dampeners.

Here is a shot of the Raybestos ST43s from the backing plate side - no dampeners.

Of course they don't...People who run race pads don't care about noise, they expect it. The dampeners are for more of a performance oriented pad on a street car.

They're weights...the stock pads also have weights just smaller rectangular ones.
