I say do what you have always done and everything will be FINE!!!!!!
if it had something to do with the oil I would agree with you 100%. Oil is so much better now. But is has NOTHING to do with the oil. It is the metal particles in the oil. No matter how good the oil is, those particles might as well be wet/dry sandpaper running through the engine scraping more metal off your internal parts.

If anyone cares, you can get actual data using an oil analysis service like Blackstone Labs http://www.blackstone-labs.com/what-is-oil-analysis.php Along with this, cut the filter open and just look.

Now, this won't tell you if you should have changed the oil, it'll only tell you what was in there. Do this over a few oil changes and you'll see a trend. It's up to you if you want the reported level of metals in your oil or not. I don't, so I'll be changing more frequently at first.

That more metal is present in the oil earlier is true. We're really only arguing over whether it's a problem. Oil is also cheap enough that changing it as a precaution seems reasonable.

Understood, And the fact that GM builds 500,000 engines a year with a VERY LOW failure rate under warrantee, Tells Me that they are OK with 7500 mile oil changes. Like I stated before, ON and ON it GOES

This and a few other things (like whether a break in is really required) are subjects that won't die, yes. The Manufacturers have spoken, it should be a settled issue.

Except....

I simply don't trust them to make the best recommendation. I expect them to make a recommendation that is a compromise of several factors (safety, liability, unfavorable comparisons to competitors, end user perception, etc). This isn't rocket science. Definite answers are known, they simply aren't passed along to us. So we're left guessing. We suspect there's a problem or a better way, but we lack the tools and data required to confirm it.

I default to "better safe than sorry". Is changing oil at 750 miles required? No. Is it a good idea? Maybe, and it's cheap so I'll do it. Is break in required? Manual says do it, and no one can prove either way. But again, it's easy enough to do it, so I will.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Mobil 1 is now in the area of $7 a quart X 10Qts. plus a filter your at almost $80. Yes its cheaper than a motor job, But is it Necessary? And then, Who's oil filter is best??? And ON and ON and ON we GO!!!!!!!!!

I love these discussions. Any new car I'll do a 500-100 mile oil and filter change. For my OCD piece of mind. I like Mobil 1 and OEM filters can't go wrong. Also won't be going more than 5K miles 6 months on the oil. I change it right before the winter hibernation.

hang

Not sure what you mean by 500-100 oil change, I always change the oil just before I put it away for Winter(5 Months) here in Maine!!!! The Acid in the oil will begin to etch the bearings if left in over the Winter!!!

GM has built horrible engines that needed a full rebuild by 60,000 miles if the owner took meticulous care of it, like the HT4100. GM has also built some of the most reliable and well engineered motors in history that wouldn't quit if the owner NEVER maintained it, like the 3800 and 350.

So based on the fact the LT1 has been around a while with no issues, it's a safe bet you can change your oil whenever you'd like within the maintenance indicator mileage and there will not be any problems with it.

What you all say may be true, but having spent the past three years on the Corvette forum and following the C7 Corvette engine failures, GM has admitted examination of the shattered engines shows evidence of flaking pieces of metal in the engine oil. I thought I read somewhere that even the LT1 engines in the Camaro may be subject to the problem and they recommend an oil service at 500 miles. I've been looking for that thread or service bulletin for the past day or so without success.

When I get my new Camaro, I am going to ask the dealership to change the oil at 500 miles even if I have to pay for it. After that, I will follow GM's service recommendations. In every other new car I've owned, I never changed oil sooner than the owner's manual recommended, but this engine is a different animal altogether.

I plan on changing mine this weekend, almost to 1500. I plan on Driving to Panama City Florida next weekend for a wedding. So I didn't want to add another 3000 miles on that original oil with who knows what in there

Same here! Mine is getting changed tomorrow morning for the first time and it will have right at 1,500 miles on it.

Walmart has the 5 qt bottles for about 26 a piece, so with filter and tax you are at about 60

That is a good deal. Also walmart carries pennzoil platinum. I used this last oil change as it has been rated better than mobile 1 on bobistheoilguy. I guess there is something to being made out of natural gas. Although I am still going to look into how they do that! LOL

I am currently waiting on the Android Auto to release so I can go to the dealership have them fix a speaker, get my free oil change, and update at the same time. Call it OCD but that will be my third oil change in about 5k miles. Then get my second one for free from the dealership around 6k miles and then start using the 10 qts of amsoil I have already in my garage for the car for 10k mile oil changes.

I believe in doing early oil changes in the beginning to flush every thing out then you can go extended.
