Z28 or wait for a 6th Gen configuration?

Now that it is Fall and the new model year has started. Chevy dealerships are beginning to drop their prices on 2015s. Currently a local dealership has two Z28s on the lot with prices lowered to the mid $60K price range with discounts.

I've always appreciated the LS7 and it turns the Z28 into a beast of a Camaro. But it is on the heavy side, and the carbon fiber brakes would be expensive to replace. The new 6th gen is lighter, and acceleration times are just a tick off from the Z28's 0-60 times and quarter mile times.

So would you look to buy a Z28 now that the dealers are willing to talk or wait on what the 6th generation has to offer?

I'm a little confused by the apple to oranges question as these two vehicles are not the same other than sharing the name Camaro. Especially using Z/28 and 1/4 mi in the same sentence.

The Z/28 is a performance spec'd track car and the tires cannot be used as a daily driver (have cash to burn?). Unless you want a garage queen or can afford / want to track your vehicle, then you need to wait for the 6th gen ZL1 or order one with the 1LE option.

Have you driven a Z/28 ? one you can put into a turn of 90%+ at speeds that will put a lot of cars on there roof, and the outer i will let you know on soon. LOL

TO give everyone a little perspective, I am currently driving a 04 supercharged corvette with coil overs. It is my play car, and I drive it on the weekends. I currently have Nitto NT01s on it. I live in San Diego where we have year round summer weather. Tires recommended for track use are common here.

I would mainly use the car for canyon carving, and group runs. The recently released acceleration times of the new 2016 SS Camaro suggest that the new high performance Camaro (1LE, ZL1 or Z28) will render the 2015 Z28 obsolete. But I doubt there will ever be another LS7 engine.

Would you buy a discounted 2015 Z28 or wait for what's might come down the road.

That car is at lest 1 year out if buy then, If it where me i get the deal and get the Z/28 now, love the Z/28 my, 2010 Camaro is on coil overs too, it sits lower then the Z but cant out handle it.

If your someone that has to have the latest and greatest and don't keep your cars for a long time enjoy your corvette for another year and see what HP models come out in 2017. If your going to just track the car and do canyon runs and keep if for awhile get the 15 you probably will not have another chance at a 7 liter again because of fleet mileage standards that will be upped soon. All that being said the Z/28 is not a comfortable car for long distance and it's handling on city streets leave a lot to be desired, but on the track it is an all out monster.

If you really can wait......then wait.... the next Gen ZL1 will probably be nuts. Who knows if another Z/28 is really in the cards for a while. If they keep with the theme that the Z/28 is now a "ultimate track car" I think it's going to be awhile.

Now if they go for a more mass market approach like the gen 2 through gen 4. I could see it in the next 2-3 years.

Of course there is one kink in my argument a new Z/28 in the low to mid 50s is a crying shame. Many people paid $75K+ Some of us were "lucky" and paid mid to low $60s.

Mid to low 50s is ridiculous .......remember all the articles "is the new Z/28 worth $75K".

Well the answer then was yes.... The answer now is it does matter... They are only $55k

There is a thread on here advertising a Z28 for $55,900. The price certainly is intriguing. The Z28 is a unique track focused car with a 7 liter hand built engine. There is a good chance you won't see that again. If you want something unique that might not be the fastest car around in a couple of years, buy the current Z28. It will ALWAYS be a great track car. If you have to have the newest and fastest, wait for the Gen 6 HiPo cars.

If you're focused on performance then I'd wait for a 6th Gen ZL1, which will likely have the Z06 motor (maybe slightly detuned) with the Alpha platform, so you're probably looking at mid 3 second 0-60 and mid 11 quarter mile times. On the other hand, there is a coolness factor to the Z28 that the 6th Gen can't match. It's just such a badass collectible car. If it were me, and I found a Z28 for the prices I'm seeing on the forums (High $50s to lows $60s) then I'd jump on the Z28. It's just a matter of your priorities.
