What gains are seen on a LT! with just a CAI.

Everyone,

After years of playing with a 1988 Fox body Mustang GT, 1998 Camaro Z28 (LS1) and a 2004 Corvette Coupe (engine in avatar). I now am back tand up to date with a 2018 Camaro SS 1LE.

Generally speaking, one of the best bolt-on mods has always been a Cold Air Intake (CAI). At the moment I am not interested in a tune or incorporating non-CARB certified parts. At least not NON-Carb that can't be easily removed. However, I haven't seen a thread that compares gains of the different CAIs. I have also heard that there isn't much gain to be had.

So is a CAI a good investment toward performance or should I just keep the OEM filter and intake in place.

P.S. How does a high flow filter compare on this engine?

Thanks in advance.

The stock box is pretty good. Track testing has shown about a tenth reduction with a rotofab dry.

The only one I've heard of that does not mess up the MAF readings is the Rotofab (your no-tune requirement makes this very important) but it's not CARB. Would not consider it to be a particularly difficult removal though. The only CARB one I've heard of is the new GM one which includes a dealer tune, but results so far seem to be poor. Meaning looks and sound, not performance, is what the customers have reported on this forum.

BTW I tried a drop-in K&N in the stock airbox on my LT1 and didn't notice any gain on the dragstrip with it.

going out on a limb; IMO - it doesn't seem there would be any measurable appreciable gains in a moving car.
