2017 SS Exhaust Question
Hi folks, new to the forum and have a 2017 2SS with manual 6 sp, non NPP dual exhaust
I am looking for a “value priced” axle back exhaust. Been looking at a MBRP XP but worried it might be too loud? Or a AWE Tourning for another $200 or so. Suggestions comment recommendations please Last edited by BlueDog17; 05-12-2022 at 09:53 PM. Reason: Mistakes |

Just go with a set of Thrush or Cherry bomb glass packs.

Do yourself a favor, search YouTube for sound clips, find one you like the sound of. The last thing you want is to go cheap and get something you hate, they all sound different.

AXle back AWE touring is a very nice sounding setup. MBRP makes me nervous though because it's basically a muffler delete with a resonator for drone and I think it's going to be on the too loud side of things, personal tastes. Ive had an MBRP touring 3" catback on my previous Mustang and I was very happy with it all things considered, different engine sounds different of course but fit and finish, quality I was satisfied with it.
I have the AWE touring on the Camaro and it get's plenty of sound compliments. |

You can search out some sound clips as suggested, but know that those are not truly representative of the exhaust sound. I have recordings of my non-NPP factory exhaust at cold start, idle, and low rev's (to 2k) that I've done on multiple devices (Google Pixel 6 Pro, iPhone XS, Zoom H4, and GoPro Hero 8). They each capture the sound slightly differently.
I then had my exhaust swapped to the GM Performance exhaust upgrade (made by Borla) and it's a great sound upgrade. Capturing the same cold start, idle, and low rev's as before with the same equipment yields only small changes in how the recordings sound. |

My long term plan was not to waste money on a cat back or axleback, instead purchase long tube 2" catless headers and reinstall the non npp oem muffler when the warranty exipres. This combination sounds the best in my opinion. I'd spend a few hours listening to sound clips of various combinations, you need quality headphones or a high quality speakers to get a good a idea. |

I was running MBRP catback Race series + secondary cats deleted, it was loud, but not defeaning loud. Absolutely recommend it for the price! I think thats how the car should have sounded from the factory! I have tons of exhaust clips, PM me if you need, I have cold start + rev ups + flybs. Actually most car meets I went to, most people thought I was running the Corsa Xtreme or Borla atak, which basically told me, mine was not raspy. Also I didn't see drone as an issue, with the windows up, it actually didn't feel all that loud lol.

Are you wanting to go quad tip? or just the dual out?
Im in the same boat...mbrp seems to be the only reasonably priced one out there for Gen 6. |

I had low tone flowmasters on my Gen5 SS. They weren't too loud and the V8 sound was deep and powerful certainly not overwhelming. I do love the NPP on my 2017 2SS as it gives me the option to modulate the sound. Even my DD Macan GTS also has this set up with loud options. |

MBRP axle back system ordered from Phastek. I’ll update once it is installed.

I had the MBRP Installer Series axle back system installed today. Much nicer sound than stock and not too loud - I was afraid it might be.
