PIP5407A I believe is the TSB.

I've seen this but it was a higher mileage vehicle.

A little early to proclaim that as fact. How many '19+ cars have over 12k miles?

It's 2022 already, so I'd imagine quite a few, yet the number of 2019+ cars with a failed oil pump hasn't grown for ages in the poll thread.

Of course this is just one forum thread, but given how many 2017-2018 failures were recorded there, it's a good indication.

Had my car towed into dealer on Tuesday. No oil pressure, 0 on the gauge.
Just got the call from the dealer. The low oil pressure was caused by a bad oil pump. They changed the oil pump in my car. The invoice states "Found Pump Exploded".
2020 ZL1 10 spd auto 15,000 miles.

When my warranty is up and I decide to do some upgrades I’ll definitely go after market oil pump.

So much for "newer pumps are fine"! I knew this was coming because Katech told me nothing about the oil pump gear had changed on the '19+ pumps (that they could see). Chevy should issue a recall on this

Very sad to see cars with such low miles with a bad oil pump.

Zander was wise to immediately get rid of his car after repairs.

Is this a ZL1 LT4 specific issue, or is it a thing on the SS LT1 as well? What would you guess is the failure rate per 1000 cars?

It's the same pump but perhaps, the LT4 puts more of a strain on it.

This certainly appears to be the case. In sddition to the LT1& Lt4, most trucks and suv's use this pump and you don't hear of many failures. The pump holds up pretty well in NA applications. There are lots of high mileage trucks out there, if these were failing at the same rate as on the LT4, we would be looking at thousands of failures.

You do realize there's tens of thousands of these cars sold right? lol.

1 Guy has a failed pump on a 2020 and you lose your shorts over it.

^^^ he's not wrong

There will always be flawed individual components and occasional freak failures.

Lmao! Very true.

The same could be said though, that this is just one guy we know of.

The oil pump gear is a weak point, that isn't up for debate - they get stress fractures in some cars and later "explode". Clearly there is a materials problem. Again my theory is owners pushing the engine too hard before 10 quarts of cold oil are up to temp, which takes a long time

The gear was not changed on the '19+ model years according to Katech, so the "19+ and you have nothing to worry about" theory is shot at this point imo

Not "losing my shorts" - completely legitimate cause for concern if you're out of warranty. BIG price tag and possible damage to other parts of the engine.
