Track modifications

I have a 2017 SS 1LE and I'm needing help. I can't figure out what modifications I should do to this car. I'll list what I have so we'll all know what I've done so far. I want to keep the magnaride and I like my warranty, so no go fast parts like headers.

This is what I have.
1. Apex 19x11 ARC8 with 295/30/19 Toyo proxes RR front and rear.
2. GM track alignment
3. BMR rear cradle lockout
4. BMR diff lockout

I have $2500 to spend. Help me out here.

I’d do wheels and tires - however the stock Goodyear’s are very good, but if you want a dedicated set that’s rotatable you’re on the right track.

Race pads, brake cooling, and the lockout kit or solid bushings. All good mods.

I already have ARC8 wheels with Toyo Proxes RR, and the lock out kits. I am still running stock pads. They do really well for the price but I am open to other pad suggestions.

Are the BMR solid control arms worth it?

Driving school, alignment, and more tires.

I'm an ok driver, but realize I have much to perfect with this car.

Besides far more satisfying when you pass someone and you respond to their inquiry..."it is all stock."

:-)

I would likely make the car handle worse with a controller. I do not have the knowledge or equipment to properly setup shocks. I have rode in cars with fully adjustable suspensions, and the car always handled worse. I never had the heart to tell the owners that they just made their car worse.

I had my Z06 professionally setup and I'm not wanting to go down that path with this car. This is strictly a HPDE car.

NEGATIVE!!!! Not unless you want to induce instability on less than perfect pavement.

GM did an excellent job with the MRC tuning. No need to try to reinvent the wheel.

Does anyone have lap times for the DSC controller? I find it hard to believe that average Joe is actually improving their times messing with settings that they do not have the capability to properly tune. Are people putting their shocks on a shock Dyno? Running sensors showing loads that engineering teams are extrapolating data from in real time? I understand that most people think stiffer is better so turn the dial to 11, but it's not.

I know that Chevy has released an update for the magnaride shocks on the C7 that has improved lap times.

I would rather remove bushing deflection so I can keep my camber and toe settings before I try to improve what a team of engineers already implemented. Or increase structual rigidity of the flexible unibody.

You are the only one thus far that I have heard of. With the exception of low speed AutoX, everyone who has gotten the controller says that under certain conditions it causes floatieness and instability when faced with bumps and road imperfections that upsets the chassis at speed.

Google search, the comments are plentiful.

I think the possibility is there for it to be better than stock GM calibrations, BUT you need an engineering and suspension degree AND LOTS of trial and error to get there.

Out of the box, the reviews are horrible. It gets good reviews on other platforms, but not on the 6th Gen. chassis, at least not without A LOT of trial and error and knowledge.

Why spend more money on mods when there is track time and more consumables to buy.

What he said!!!!

Just run what you have already and spend the rest of your cash on seat time and consumables. Unless you want to add some safety equipment.

+1. $2500 will get chewed through really quick on entry fees, hotels, gasoline, tires, and brake pads.

For the vast majority of drivers the 1LE doesn't *need* anything out of the box except an alignment and brake fluid flush.

Do a bunch of HPDE's, compare your lap times with the Best Track Times thread, and only when you're at the top of the heap should you be looking at modifications to go quicker. 9/10 it's the driver holding the car back, not the other way around.
