Exclamation It Was The Half Shaft All Along. Not The Diff!

PLEASE have your half shaft checked, Specifically the drivers side.

I have had the proverbial Differential Groan since new (now 6,500 miles on it)

It would go away after it warmed up....Chevy service said "it was normal".
Been through the trans flush no more shudder....

So a few days ago I'm driving out of my driveway and clang, snap, bam, clang clang clang...

the half shaft bolts sheared off the the Diff out put shaft.

At first I thought the ring and pinion had let go. Felt like it....been there done that before on other vehicles....sounded close....

Once the flat bed arrived and its in the air....
I see the shaft is disconnected. Torn off.
Thankful at drive way speed.....

Turns out there is a "rare" defect in some half shafts...according to the tech and Chevy. The fix is an upgraded half shaft and upgraded bolt set.
Driver side only.

Picked it up this morning and Zero groan from the rear.

ALL this time its been the drivers side half shaft.

Please my friends be careful and have it looked over. There is no Vin specific info (or at least I have been told) that identified what vehicles are fitted with this half shaft.

When it lets go that's when you know.

Sorry if this is a repeat. I thought it proper to inform our friends here.

No problems. It's important that his is remedied, especially since most of the affected cars are now out of warranty. I had mine checked at a shop and they said not needed. Car was made March 2016. All the bolts were still lined up with the paint marking.

3 of PN 11601876 for one side.
37 lb-ft + 45 degrees.
