Wireless CarPlay

Has anyone figured out if there is any way at all to get wireless CarPlay?? I know it would require some type of hardware to be installed. Possibly have to remove one or both the USB ports but just curious.

Try NavTool. Just installed unit without wireless or CarPlay/Android Auto in my 2015 Silverado before opening my Camaro dash. This gives screen mirror from phone.

Options give you wireless and CarPlay/Android Auto and extra cameras.

I'm going with the wireless adapter and front camera for the Camaro.

Is there a "wireless" adapter you can leave plugged into the USB. I hate having to plug my phone in the glovebox. (I know, I know.....first world problem)

For Android auto there are, a quick google will show you some.

However, most seem to require an android head unit to operate and specifically say that most OEM systems are not compatible (the usb device probably doesn't simulate the appropriate "phone" device that the car expects)

There's also this (https://androidcommunity.com/get-wir...-app-20180718/) solution and while it's Android auto specific, it uses a rootable slave device like an android tv stick to act as the mediary between the phone and the head unit. Doubt a similar solution exists for carplay though since apple doesn't want anyone to root apple stuff.

I use the car to charge the phone, so wireless carplay/aa isn't even something worth considering. I have tested it out though and if you dont charge your phone in the car now, you'll be charging everywhere else you happen to be if you start using carplay/aa wirelessly. It will eat battery.

I'd suggest solutioning a way to get that usb port out of the center console so it's more easily accessible vs looking for a wireless dongle. I fiberglassed up a nifty rear vertical stand holder that sits in the spot the rear wireless charger would be in. I drop the phone in after plugging a cable into it. Entire thing is off out of the way in the rear while driving and you dont have any cables etc in the way.

I have a 14 GMC Sierra, and was curious on this install, since the vehicles are practically the same. I watched their YouTube video.

1) Does the factory microphone work with their device or do you have to use the microphone they mentioned in the install video?

2) Do any of the factory USB ports work to activate this or do you have to use the USB port on the device that is located behind/in the glove box?

I dont think its not that easy, unless HMI is flashed and has new hardware.

Yes, there's a brand new option with a third party interface that will activate wireless CarPlay on our cars, too.

It's got a price of about 160.00 USD (146.00 EUR) and you can find it here:
https://carplay2air.com

I have sent to them a direct email asking for compatibility and they confirmed this dongle is 100% working on 2016-2020 Camaro.

Who will be the first to try it?

See you!!,

Is just a Bluetooth to USB bridge so that the MyLink thinks it’s hardwired?

If so, $160 seems a little high, unless there is some extra stuff going on in that dongle.

Edit: after reading the site it’s a Bluetooth and WiFi connection. If you use your hotspot in your car can’t anymore based on how this reads. As well as they recommend disconnecting all other Bluetooth devices (so smart watches) and WiFi (car hotspot) to make sure it connects to the correct device for this dongle. As well as the common trend I saw in reviews (audio issues when notifications come in, firmware issues, having to unplug and replug to get to work sometimes after getting back into car)

It has promise. But just not sold on it myself. Curious to see someone else try it out and give some feedback.

If I knew more on the Bluetooth to USB translation there might be cheaper options.

I tried it on my 2017 RS and the system would never see the device except for once and I was able to connect but then it disconnected and would never reconnect. I thought the device was defective so I tried on my wife's 2019 Ford Escape and it saw the device immediately and allowed me to connect via bluetooth to my iphone. Worked like a champ. I was able to use steering wheel controls and everything worked fine. I was even able to update the firmware on the device which I thought maybe was an issue with my car. So then I tried it again on my RS and nothing. I see a red light blinking on the device and nothing else. So I don't know what's up with that.
