MSD 2 Step Question

Hey everyone,

Had a couple questions about installing my MSD 2 Step on my M6 '17SS. The only video/thread I've seen on here advised me to tap into the yellow wire leading to the clutch position sensor. While at the same time running a toggle switch, to turn the car on.

My question is, could I just tap into the cigarette lighter for the 12V and just use a toggle switch without tapping into the clutch position sensor?

Has anyone had luck with this doing something similar or have they ran into the same problem I've been seeing where they have to use both the clutch and a toggle switch?

Thank you,
Nito

So are you trying to make it come on manually? As in not by using the clutch

Anyone has tried this? I'll be using a momentary switch so it would be only working with the button pressed in and have the msd shut off as soon as I let go... Would tapping inthe the switched 12v in the cig lighter work ?

If your going that way you need a ground not a positive and use the solid blue wire on the 2step box.

This is how mines done, I just ran the wire out the old sound tube hole in the firewall and connected to the ground by the hinge for the hood

Just ground? So where does the MSD get the power from?.... the center console has a ground bolt in there I'll just use that one since the button will next to the shifter.

Im actually going to drill a hole make it flush next to the shifter

All cars come with launch control... It just sucks from factory plus with the MSD I can change the rev point.

It gets it's power source from the coils. It is weird tho, if you went off your clutch POS sensor it would be a positive source and you would use the blue/white wire.

I've done mine the ground wire set up for about a year now and love it. Push the button when you need it and it doesn't cause problems.

When your at the track don't use it until the other guy is fully staged. If your on it too long you can get knock codes depending on your rpm. I floor it once the tree starts coming down and it's been pretty good for me. 1.54 60' is my best. Original clutch (probably 200+ passes) gforce aluminum DS, factory axles and rear end. 28x10 slicks 17" race stars.

I've seen many many people run the msd 2 step with no issues.

the Lingenfelter to me is overkill if you dont have a NOS system since it has the timing retard thingy. you are paying double the price for something you're ony going to be using half of it's features.
