Lightning Lap 2022

Mach 1 finished at 2:51 which is 3s faster than SS1le. It also beat the gt350r. I wonder what tire it was on.
$60k price tag though.

Glad to see Ford catch up at last. I think at least half of the time gap can be attributed to tires. Good to see Ford finally show up after 5 extra years of development.

Would be great to see a same day test. I don't see how a Mach 1 with less power and more weight is faster than a GT350R in equal conditions.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Plus the GT350R has carbon fiber wheels and better areo. It might come down to torque though.

And the Mach 1 is considerably more expensive than the 1LE, especially given what dealers want for them.

If you have a vehicle that's easier to drive at the limits around a track, it makes it easier to get better times. If you have more power than you can use at a track, then you have to drive more cautious, and that doesn't always translate to great track times. It's why Miatas are seen at tracks all the time, you hit the car's limits before you hit yours.

I got my 2SS 1LE here for a touch over 60k, a similar specced Mach 1 was almost 90k CAD here, plus a higher finance rate. Couldn’t justify the extra money for the difference between the two cars!

90k is full spec ZL1 1LE money.

This … no idea how that math works when you’re considering options. Nice car, but 90k for an NA 5.0 … no thanks.

Its the tires and driving conditions. Throttlehouse did a PP2 to SS1le comparison back in the day with stock tires, the ss1le was tenth of a second slower or something. Then they decided the put the same all around tires on the SS1le with same compound 305 square setup I believe, the ss 1le knocked almost a full second on a little over 1 minute long track. Now you put Cup 2s on the ss1le with 315s in the back and 305s in the front, i bet it can beat the Mach 1 no problem.

2016 GT350s are still making low 70s here, again I just couldn’t justify that for how much car a brand new SS 1LE offers for the price.

Fords just seem over the top price versus performance

Motortrend also tested the Mach1 and i did not see any laptimes, however, looking at acceleration, figure 8, lateral gs and braking, all of them are worse than ss 1le that they tested. So something definitely doesn’t add up about the Mach1 in the lightning lap.
