MRR M228 - powder coated or painted?

I am looking at MRR wheels - 228 or 755 — but I want to be sure they are powdercoated for a durable finish and if they get scratches or rash they don't show a different color underneath.

Or what would you recommend in a dark gunmetal finish or matte black for a gen6 ss? My current factory wheels have curb rash and show the metal aluminum color underneath and looks bad.

Thanks!

Even if you curb a powdercoated wheel you'll still see a different color underneath because you're scraping off the coating and exposing the underlying aluminum. The only way to solve this is to either be extra careful and stop curbing wheels or get wheel with a polished aluminum face because it'll just look like bare aluminum anyways, and is easier to repair.

I definitely curb rashed my brand new M228 in black. Nice shiny bit of metal showing underneath.

good to know. I am also looking at the stance SF03 in tinted black. It is a little more expensive but I think the finish is on the metal wheel itself instead of painted?

If you curb a wheel, it'll look like trash no matter the surface treatment, because you'll take (hopefully small) chunks out of the material.

To fix that properly, you either need to abrade the surrounding area or a filler to re-add the material before painting or re-powdercoating. Simply making it less obvious for the interim can very easily be achieved with touch-up paint if the wheel is painted in the first place.
