Red face Trading in RS for SS?

Alright guys so long story short, I want to trade in my 2016 RS for a 2017 2SS. I've been thinking about it so much because it's a huge payment difference and I don't know how much I would be upside down on my Camaro. Is it worth it? I'm not fully satisfied with my RS. I want to be fully happy with my car and that would be an SS. My bestfriend has a 2016 2SS and i only want it more and more because we mob in his SS a lot. What should I do? How much money will I be upside down? 5k? 10k? And also I currently pay $250 for insurance since I'm only 19 years old. Will my insurance boost up a lot if I got the SS? It's the same year and still a sports car.. thanks!

Unfortunately you are going to get taken to the bank on both. It would be easy to find out both questions you ask. Call your insurance company for a quote and go to a dealer to get a trade in value.

Call your insurance company and ask for a quote, a lot of variables in the other part of the question.

I did this last year. I bought a v6 in January and traded it in in July.
I was 10,000 upside down, but they were offering 0%, which they were not before.
It offset the negative equity and my payment only went up 50.00. As for the insurance,
give them a call. Mine did go up.

Figure out what your car is worth first. Then decide if you can even take that kind of hit financially. The best I can offer to help there is that I traded in my 2014 LS for $12,500 and financed $22,000 on my 1SS.

In terms of you insurance rate I'll let you know what I pay. I'm 20 year old Male with 3 speeding tickets and a reckless driving(speeding) ticket sitting on my record. I pay $295 a month for my insurance, full coverage.

If you didn't put at least $5-7k down payment on your RS you will be upside down on it, probably a lot more than you expect. As for insurance it's going to go up for sure. But on the insurance front $250 is a lot even for a 19 yo (assuming you have a clean driving record). I bought my 2012 SS Camaro when I was 20 and my insurance was only $135 a month, so consider shopping around for a different insurance company, Geico is usually cheaper than most.

You'll get bent over backwards. With no downpayment, you'll be out big $$$. And here's a tip: You probably won't be satisfied with your SS after awhile. You'll want more power. You can't use all the SS power on the street. You wring the neck of a V-6....in some ways that's more fun.

Yes the V8 sounds better and has better thrust but the 6 is no slouch. And the 8 will drink more gas. If you have the $$, go for the V8. If it's going to cause significant financial damage, I'd just enjoy my RS.

This peer pressure lesson is going to cost you. Totally not worth it from a financial aspect. The RS is probably worth $20k at trade in right now, even if you get a 2SS for $30k youre going to take a hit and thats not even counting your certain insurance hike.

No matter how you slice it, the math doesn't work out in your favor. Like me, you are basically stuck in your existing car for now unless you want to take a big financial hit and pay more for insurance. I'm in the same boat, I want a 1LE, but I would take too much of a financial hit if I trade in my 2SS for it to be worth it. And for me, I really wouldn't feel the difference in normal day to day driving unless I was on a track. But I still want one. It just wouldn't be a smart financial move. I agree with cbr1100xx, even if you get an SS, it will be fun for a few months but once you get used to the power, you'll realize that its just a car and the difference between a v6 and the v8 for everyday driving isn't that big of a deal. There's a big difference in performance, don't get me wrong, but for everyday driving its not enough of a difference to take a big financial hit over. The v6 is pretty fast as is. Just enjoy the v6 for a year or two, or wait till the end of the year when 20% off deals come around again.

Enjoy having a good time hanging out with your best buddy and his SS, but let him enjoy the costs he incurs with owning one. Then just set a goal of having one down the road.

Go enjoy your Camaro and knowing you don't need to put yourself under and in debt because you enjoy something someone else has that you don't.

Exactly this. You are only 19, don't get buried in car debt and heavy insurance bill.

The "wrong math" is exactly the reason my SS is staying and I'm forgetting about a ZL1. No way am I going to take that depreciation hit for basically no reason for power that I can't use.

There is nothing wrong with that 335hp V6 in your RS. I would have loved to have had a 13-second car as a 19yo. To say nothing of having all the great modern amenities you currently enjoy.
