Saw that too all over the web... it's a shame if it happens. The new Viper is one heck of an awesome car but unfortunately it's still a for-profit business at the end of the day. R&D and production costs must provide a fair ROI at a minimum, especially long-term... and sales per year that are below forecast/target levels isn't feasible from a business standpoint.
We'll see.... |

On the Z/28 board you often read about a person choosing between the Z06 and the Z/28. It seems to me their Hellcat sucked a lot of the oxygen out of the Viper customer room.

Dismal sales... repetitive, systemic.

This will be what, the 3rd or 4th time the Viper has gotten cancelled? And its came back from the dead every time so far ... so I wouldn't be overly worried about it going away & never coming back.
The Viper will never sell in anything approaching a normal volume. They could move 10x as many as they do and it would still be a niche product. But keep in mind the fact that the people who green-light it know this better than anyone. My guess is that the next gen (probably a 2019 if they follow past patterns) shares most of its underpinnings with a Maserati.

But they didn't have a Hellcat competitor on their own showrooms before. I see this being the final countdown.

In the year 2025, the CAFE standard will be 54.5 mpg. Get used to seeing muscle die off. The government did it once before and it's going to happen again.

Quote:
2) In a couple years, the standard is going to get reviewed (and likely be made easier) 3) The design of the calculation formula ensures that small volume cars have a minimal impact 4) The muscle car era was over long before CAFE went into effect & ended for reasons that go beyond government regulation (including insurance & gas prices)
