As long as you compare apples to apples, it's all good. My only complaint about the 10.6 run is that it was a pre-production car, although it looks like the production cars will probably be just as fast. It's still dishonest, IMHO, that they (meaning Evan Smith) purposely hide that kind of stuff. |

Well, one positive for Mustang is that it comes with a much larger displacement supercharger than the ZL1. I love my '18 A10 ZL1 but understood that I would really need to change the supercharger if I wanted substantially more power. This will probably not be required with the Shelby GT 500. The ZL1 A10 loaded up is around $70,000 and a nicely equipped GT500 is around $84,000 so that is really the Delta. The one thing that is really stopping me on the Mustang is the interior is horrendous and the rear seats – if it is even possible – appear to be far less usable than those in the ZL1.

I thought this was largely debunked as they really can’t hook except on a really prepped track. This, unlike several comparisons I have seen said the Camaro, on a typical surface, hooks better.

If anything it's dying. Musclecars are going extinct, everything is going electric. Updated ZL1 won't happen

the HP wars are super cool but what is on the horizon as fuel cost continue to rise? In my area fuel has gone up 20 cents per gallon since Jan... and in some places locally it is 30+ cents since Jan for 93.

Gasoline will keep going up until people start bitching and griping to the government and elected officials/leaders. And I really don’t think that will do any good because of the new agenda!

I was actually excited about the GT500......then saw it in person. Not a huge fan. In my opinion the GT350R looks meaner/more aggressive. They were parked right next to each other and it was no contest. I would have taken the 350R without a thought.

$84k for a base GT500 (msrp) w/ options seems high, though. A GT500 with the tech. package, rapid red, and white vinyl stripes comes to $78,490 (how I would build it if I was ordering one). I don't see where you get to $84k given the limited package options without some type of carbon wheel option on the base. A similarly equipped ZL1 is around $69k (i.e., the msrp for my ZL1). However, with ADM for the GT500, obviously that ~10k Delta in price grows. I ordered just in time (Dec. '20) and was able to negotiate a dealer discount + $2k worth of incentives, further separating the two cars in price, making my decision between the two even easier (plus the local Ford dealer wasn't allowing test drives in their base GT500 last fall). I agree the GT500 interior wasn't as nice as the ZL1, it didn't even feel as nice as my 2018 GT Premium, honestly. And the Recaros weren't that comfortable to me and weren't heated/cooled like the ZL1 Recaros. A contributing factor to the ZL1 hooking better is likely due to better weight distribution + lighter weight compared to the GT500 (56/44 and 4170 lbs base GT500 vs 54/46 and 3925 lbs for A10 ZL1). That's also one reason why the Hellcats can't hook worth beans (57/43 distribution and 4500+ lbs).
