Just as the tire came off the ground the car shifted and bent the pinch weld. Luckily it didn't fall of the Jack. Btw You can straighten a bent pinch weld by using an adjustable wrench. Just start at one end walk it along until is straight. No doubt it's now weaker, but, at least it doesen't look f*cked.
I've been using the ZL1 magpads with pucks since 2017 and they have worked fine for me numerous times. My method is different than yours, I put the magpad onto the car first, and then slowly raise the jack until the puck is in the jackpad where I want it, then jack the car up. I also use wheel chocks on the opposite side's rear tires. To me, the point of the magnets in the pad is to be able to temporarily place it where you want on the car.

I did the same. I then centered the floor jack directly under the puck in the saddle.
Though, I did not use any wheel chocks.
The Car bolted to the side, wheel chucks wouldn't have mattered.
Here is my guess. Don't ever lift only one corner of the car.
Use "two" magpads at the same time with two floor jacks.
Left & Right.
Lift the car evenly, not just one corner.

Sorry to hear about that. That risk is why many of us have use ZL1 addons lift pads or use slotted pucks. I have the ZL1 addons lift points on my Z, but all 3 of my cars have pinch welds as jack points, so the $5 slotted hockey puck was also a worthy investment.
