Summer tires in 34° weather?

So my Camaro is brand new and I wasn’t planning on getting the all season tires until November but now it looks like the weathers going to be 34° early in the morning next week and it’ll warm up to 60° during the day. If I drive my Camaro with the summer tires in this kind of weather will it hurt the engine or Car? All I’m doing is a normal drive to work nothing crazy.

I'd drive it but beware on icy roads, you won't have very good traction. No tailgating.

Agree with 396ssrat, just drive, you'll be all right. Be very careful with the skinny pedal and keep longer distances until all four corners turn green (NORMAL) in the tire temp screen, especially if you're on the factory runflats. You obviously won't want to floor it at all.

The tires themselves will be okay, the ground is nowhere near frozen if temps still go up to 60° during the day, so you'll be able to warm them up to a reasonable level.

So other than being careful this wouldn’t hurt the car like the engine or anything?

I also agree too with what their responses. Give yourself the distance. Those tires start to remind me of hard plastic when the temps get close to freezing.

Summer tires will be slippery under 40 degrees ice or no ice, but there is no way that they can hurt your engine or anyother part of your car unless you crash

Sort of a silly question TBH

No but I personally like oil temp to be above 120°.

Just take it easy while the temps are low but no your engine will not be damaged!

Well it can certainly hurt summer tires, but maybe not the stock SS tires. Don't quote me on that. (*edit* I missed that the page from the manual was posted above)

Many high performance summer tires, like the SS 1LE/ZL1 stock Goodyears have a warning about cracking if they are under 40 degrees. I have Michelin PS4Ss that I remove and store indoors once the morning drive temps are below ~45 degrees. I run stock LS/LT Goodyear all-seasons until it warms up in the Spring.

If you know you're going to need all-seasons in November, just buy them now.

No it won't hurt anything. I drove on mine for 2 years until I wore them out it all weather except snow. Just easier to spin you wheels in colder weather. Just spins tires easily. Still lots of control especially with a manual.

Last year we had a month of roughly 5 degrees celsius (40F) before winter hit and while it was decently safe to drive, the tires definitely slid over the road very easily with just a little too much throttle input, one time nearly put me sideways into a sidewalk curb but managed to somehow save it. Honestly, all in all, not a fun time. Its doable, but can feel very sketchy.

Buy Michelin's best all-season tire like the PILOT SPORT A/S 3+
