Chevrolet stops reporting monthly sale figures!

They will no longer compete with Dodge and Ford sales in monthly reports.
Ford Mustang Beats Dodge Challenger in April Sales Race

The sales numbers for April 2018 are in and for the second month in a row, the Ford Mustang has beaten the Dodge Challenger to lead the muscle car segment, with the Chevrolet Camaro being absent from this piece due to GM’s new reporting system. Each month over the past 6 years, I have covered the sales race between the Ford Mustang, the Dodge Challenger and the Chevrolet Camaro. Starting with April 2018, my monthly muscle car sales will seemingly only include the Mustang and Challenger, as General Motors has changed their sales reporting from monthly to quarterly. This means that without an accurate number from General Motors, it is impossible to include the Camaro in the monthly sales race discussion.

Anybody know why they changed their reporting? Im sure they themselves are still using monthly data
To track how things are doing.

Basically they said the 30 day snapshot does not accurately reflect the market. Or they just got tired of hearing all the people crying and screaming that the sky is falling about sales of the Camaro every month on this forum.

Their sales are down, they know it and we know it and GM is getting embarrassed right now by the other manufacturers. Don't blame them cause Mustang is selling almost 2:1. The Camaro is the better looking (my opinion), better performing and more superior car but GM has once again priced themselves out of the market and dealers not helping themselves either.

General Motors will begin reporting U.S. sales at the end of each quarter instead of at the end of each month. March will be the last monthly sales report from GM.

"Reporting sales quarterly better aligns with our business, and the quality of information will make it easier to see how the business is performing," said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president, Sales Operations for General Motors.

The automaker says dropping monthly sales reports was driven by a number of factors, including the desire to stop the volatility that sometimes exaggerates monthly sales. GM says unusual weather, product launches or incentive campaigns can skew monthly numbers up or down.

"Thirty days is not enough time to separate real sales trends from short-term fluctuations in a very dynamic, highly competitive market," said McNeil.

What most people don't get is that mustang across the board sells to a far different buyer then Camaro , Mustangs have always been a cookie cutter car to me, they don't care who buys them ,ands its why they don't put more coolers on so called track cars unless they are over 65k and there dealers tack on another 15k.They have had many years to come up with a car to compete with the SS 1LE in the same price range and have failed everytime,i feel bad for the true mustang fan that wants a car like the SS 1le for 45k sticker, well 60k after the Ford dealers get ahold of it. I read something recently about GMs net income was up 210 percent in the last few years but there market cap has shrunk 12 percent . You get what you pay for in this world ,Camaro is a much better car for the price.

The different buyer that Mustang and Challenger has is Fleet Rental cars. GM has turned away from fleet in favor of higher transaction priced retail.

Camaro’s 2017 totals illustrates this. 4% fleet with and average transaction price $5,722 higher than Mustang with its 26% fleet.

Retail ATP's 2017 (JDPin)
Camaro: $39,514
Challenger: $35,498 (-$4,016)
Mustang: $33,792 (-$5,722)

Retail Sales 2017
Camaro: 65,222
Mustang: 60,581 (-4641)
Challenger: 45,821 (-19,401)

Total Sales 2017
Mustang 81,866
Camaro 67,940 (-13,926)
Challenger 64,537 (-17,329)

Percentage of Total Sales that are Fleet/Rental 2017
Camaro 4%
Mustang 26% (+22%)
Challenger 29% (+25%)

While I understand the desire to have monthly reports,
I agree with GM on this one.
Quarterly sales reports are more accurate than monthly reports.
As an example,
The sales reports are accurate IF you’re only counting sales from camaro’s on the lot,
But orders are a different story, sales are reported when the cars are delivered, not when they’re ordered, so, monthly numbers aren’t a true representation of sales.
My Camaro was ordered in October 2017, delivered in April 2018.
And there are other examples too.
So I can see both sides of the debate,
But I side with GM on this one and quarterly reports are a business standard.
