"Too Stiff" is subjective. My ZLE doesn't bother me, but I also don't daily drive it. If you plan to daily drive it, i suspect it might become too much over time for most people. If its just a weekend toy, you won't regret the 1LE package.

To the original poster who lives in Ohio - if your roads are anything like I think they are, like they are in Pennsylvania, New York, etc. - Be certain to drive a ZLE on the roads that are local to you before you decide! Most everyone who has been posting I would say at least 90% live in the southern states where the roads are good. The roads in Ohio Pennsylvania and New York are absolutely horrible with potholes frost heaves and literally the pavement peeling up off the road. I haven’t driven mine in the last month or two because the roads are so horrible here and I live right on the Pennsylvania Maryland border. Around this time of the year is when the road crews go out and repave all the worst spots and if they don’t have time they at least try to patch the potholes and the worst of the cracks. The ZLE suspension is absolutely terrible over these huge potholes even trying to weave in and out of them it’s a terrible ride (I’m talking about head bouncing up and hitting the roof type stuff). And I own other high-performance sports cars. My daily driver is a Honda civic type R which has its version of magna ride. I typically drive it in sport, and never in +R mode (that’s race mode) because the ride is so bad in +R. And let me tell you +R mode is about twice as soft as the ZLE suspension is!.
If you are buying this car as a toy to occasionally take out and have a little bit of fun, then the ZLE will be fine. That’s how I use mine (and as a potential collectible). But if you plan to actually drive this car on a fairly frequent basis and actually go places you should very seriously consider the standard ZL1. I’m telling you on the northern roads this car is too stiffly sprung! By the way I’m a racecar driver and hold licenses with the SCCA and with NASA. I own two full blown race cars and drive another for a race team. FYI. |

Stick with a ZL1. Then put the wing on it if you must. The ZL1 is great for everyday driving and at 97% on a track. The last 3 % is what the 1LE gives you...

I test drove a 2016 SS with magna ride and a 2013 ZL1. If you need that ultra smooth ride then the regular ZL1 is great. I have a 2018 ZLE that I plan to track. It has street tires right now and is imho not overly harsh. I have driven and ridden in much worse. There are times where I feel it is barely more stiff than my Jeep SRT with the run flats. I do not daily drive it but I do take it out for fun runs about 5 or 6 days a week.

My opinion is I have the normal ZL1 and in track mode its very harsh in regards to the ride. I can't imaging it being more-so and not having the ability to change it to something softer. Meaning you cant change the suspension mode with the switch to anything but uber track mode. NO THANKS. If I were getting this car to really use at a track every few weekends, then sure 1LE absolutely. For normal driving and car shows and the drag strip and MAYBE a track day once a year, no way I'd give up the MRC from the standard ZL1. The standard ZL1 is just too good to not get it over the 1LE unless you are a real racer.

This has been a question asked many times here and usually goes the same way. Most of the non 1LE owners that never drove one will tell you the ride is too rough and most of the ZLE owners will tell you its not as bad as they tell you. Get the one you think looks better which ever one that is.

I REALLY wanted a ZLE, but knowing I am daily driving mine I opted for the ZL1. While I'm use to harsher rides, there is no doubt in my mind after the newness wore off I'd grow to hate daily driving the ZLE when I could have easily had one that rode better. Every time I would install coilovers on my daily, I'd be in love at first and then it wore off I wished I'd done something more static.

If you want an amazing car, buy the car that gets you excited the most. The excitement factor is what this car was built for. If you dream of a ZLE at night don’t buy a ZL1 strictly based on a stiffer ride, I don’t care if you ever go to a race track! If you like the ZL1 better, buy it. But I’m guessing from the original post you are dreaming of the ZLE. Good luck and enjoy whatever you decide to do.

Just get a vert and the decision is made for you. You can’t get a 1LE with the vert option.
