19" or 20" set up ....
Trying to decide on going with a 19' or 20' wheel set up. Have been reading through this section for a few weeks and no closer to a decision. I'd like to get some advise with actual set ups to help with the decision. Meaning tire brands and sizes. Mine is not a DD so looking for a drag radial good for street/strip. Also I wasn't going to do the wire relocation if I don't need to. Just spent a lot after my piston failure so hoping to buy the right set up the first time around.
I was originally thinking of the 305/35/20 Nitto 555r on the stock wheels, but know there are other choices (888r, MT...). Not all brands have the same sizes either so adds to the decision. So will be going with new rims/tires. Any input regarding benefits of 19" over the 20" is appreciated and tire brand/size recommendation. I'm over 700 wheel/Tq and hard to hook. Thanks in advance. |

Oof, I did the research when APEX was running their group buy. 19" tires are definitely not much cheaper than 20" tires.

I looked at the recommended tire sizes for APEX's 19x10 wheels, 275/40/19 and 285/35/19. I included the most popular all season, max performance, and ultra high performance tires.
Wonder if I have that sheet around still.

Ok, so still not getting any good tire recommendations. How about what tires are you running in the 20" and how do they grip? M/T, Nitto 555r/NT01/05, Toyo 888r ....

From a performance aspect, smaller is always better when it comes to wheel sizes. Since rubber is lighter than aluminum, a small wheel/big tire setup will come in at a lower weight than a big wheel/small tire would.
19x11" ET43 fits great out back with zero poke and there are a few great drag radial options in the 305/35-19 size, including the Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S. - Cory

Narrowing down the choices from 19" to 20" I found below with regards to a stickier grip tire. So of the sizes below, which will not rub or leave too much of a wheel gap. I was thinking about the 315/30-20 but was told it would rub. Have not relocated the wiring harness and wasn't going to unless I needed to do it.
I was considering either the Nitto 555r 305/35-20 or Michelin 4s 305/30-19. I hit the drag strip 2-3 times a year. Do not DD and looking for a set up that will work well for over 700 wheel hp. Considered a drag setup but don't have room to store them. Am I the only one that over thinks tire/wheel selections (lol).... Wheel would be 20x10/11 or 19x10/11. I have the same dilemma except my car is just my commuter. I have a V6 with the stock 18 X 8.5 wheels. They are silver and I want to get black wheels. I love the look of the 20" wheels but worried about the weight and don't want to compromise performance with the V6. But there may be fitment issues with 19" wheels, depending on the offset. I ideally want flush and would rather not go staggered but will if I have to. Any recommendations would be great

I myself have researched new tire options for months. I have concluded on going with the R888R's in the rear as these tires have been proven to work with cars making over 800whp. They may not be the best drag duty setup but seem to be the best all around.
For the fronts have finally found my tire of choice yesterday and I am hoping to purchase and have my new wheel and tire set up by the end of August. |
