This is a common issue and there seems to be no clear solution. I had it about 1.5 years ago while still in warranty and the dealer solution was a new battery. Now the issue is back. Many have tried new batteries, starters (or both), wrapping the starter with insulation and even an additional ground wire (engine to frame). The results of all of this are inconclusive.

My issue is always on the restart of a fully warmed up engine that has set only a few minutes. Of late I have popped the hood between starts to get some heat out of the engine compartment. That seems to help. I also do not kill the engine while waiting in line at the bank or whatever. That wastes fuel but I don't risk facing a no start.

I'm convinced this is heat soak to the starter. Now that I am out of warranty I'm going to look for a better aftermarket starter and battery the next time I have a failed start.

Good luck - it is very frustrating!

Yh, starter design is just $ht, cables and batteries have all cars and don't have this problem...... I'll see if my local shop can rebuild the starter, would be a pain to import a new one from US.

Does anyone replaced starter by himself? I read in the workshop manual they just say, unscrew bolts, cable nut and then remove starter. There is no way in hell u can remove it, I tried every possible way and angle, it won't come off due to the exhaust manifold being in the way. Why would they write an incomplete procedure in the book?

Hm, my 2018 manual describes this as multiple steps, including right side exhaust manifold removal. I've never tried to replace the starter, but the procedure looks fairly complete...

1. Install the starter (2)
2. Install the starter mounting bolts (1). Tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft)

Connect 3. the electrical connector (1).
4. Install Battery Positive Cable (3).
5. Tighten Starter Solenoid Cable Nut (2) to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
6. Install Starter Shield Replacement (LT1)
7. Lower the vehicle.

Ain't big deal I loosend up the exhaust manifold and it was easy afterwards. One more favour, does anyone know the p/n for exhaust manifold bolts? I can't seem to find them on any GM shop website diagrams, they are incomplete :(

Wanna try something?

Disconnect both battery terminals and touch them together. Then reconnect everything. Let us know if that helped. This just fixed that issue for me, I’m 90% sure the improvement wasn’t just from repositioning the terminals.

Here you go, this is an older diagram, but the part numbers do exist and thus likely haven't changed in the meantime. The bolts you're after are either #24 or #26 below.

There are several videos on YouTube that show a standard battery change, other than the awkward location.
