The only change made is with the brake pad compound, the braking system remains the same. I believe this only affected the 1LE cars anyway, and I don't believe there is any effect on pricing. They basically re-formulated the brake pad material.

I looked it up and found this article that states, "By 2025, the brakes had to have less than 0.5 percent copper by weight. It’s because of this rule that starting on January 1, Chevrolet won’t be able to sell the 2021 Camaro SS, 1LE, and ZL1 in those states due to the copper content of the Brembo brakes, which exceeds 5 percent." So the SS models are included which are the 4-piston brakes up front. I assume there has to be some additional cost upgrading from 4-piston to 6-piston which is why I was curious.

I found it in a Car and Driver article btw!

now i get it,gas guzzler tax is still pending, till then we can go to the dealers and we can build one/order one for now before the build and price feature is live on chevy.com

Here you go.

ZL1 - $500
SS - $995
SS 1LE - $0

When you order it on SS, you also get the J6H 6 piston front, 4 piston rear brakes with 2 piece rotors from the ZL1. So it's a fantastic deal for non 1LE SS cars at $995. It will make brake jobs and rotor replacement more expensive but the option price is great.

On SS 1LE, you also get the J6H ZL1 brakes instead of the standard J6M SS 1LE brakes. If you don't order the copper free pads, you get the J6M brakes. I don't know if they're still red when you order them though. My guess is that they are.

In case the option codes are confusing:

J6G - Brembo 4-Piston Front and Rear - Standard on 1SS and 2SS
J6H - Brembo 6-Piston Front and 4-Piston Rear - Standard on ZL1 and on SS/SS1LE when ordering BCD Performance Copper Free Brake Pads
J6M - Brembo Red, 6-Piston Front and 4-Piston Rear - Standard on SS 1LE without BCD Performance Copper Free Brake Pads

These will be required for all SS and ZL1 cars shipped to CA and WA. They are not available on Redline Edition and not available with the following wheels: 56M, 56R, 56W, 57S. They are also not available with the optional Red or Orange Calipers on SS.

Correct. If you're ordering a ZL1, it will still show W/A in the price field but everything else should be good.

I have J6L on my newly purchased 2018 Hotwheels Edition. They are orange painted calipers. I’m guessing it’s the standard 4 piston setup, as it is a 2SS, just with orange painted calipers, unless you know something different. Thank you

J6L is and has been the code for orange calipers.

Thank you.

I’m assuming they are the standard for 2SS piston-wise. 4 front and rear.

Awesome thank you for the information GearheadSS! I also ordered my car with red colored brake calipers, would they still come red if I got the $995 J6H option or would they be the grey color?

Right now it's unclear. If you ordered a non-1LE then you would likely get gray calipers with the $995 copper free brake system. Red or orange calipers can't be ordered with that option on SS.

Thanks for all the updates! I've certainly learned more here then from my questions to the local Chevy dealership.

I ordered a 2021 2SS back in February and even though the dealer said they had Camaro allocations every time I asked the order was never picked up by GM and I've been told that it has been cancelled after not hearing back from the dealer and then a call to the General Manager.

I have two choices: 1. I put in a 2022 order with the same dealership and hope this time they will get an allocation. 2. I can go with another dealership that is an hour away, generally sells more Camaros then the first dealership and says they can get an allocation when they open up because they sell a lot of them. The only issue would be that I'll be their 4th order for a 2022 and at the first dealership I'd be the first order in line. I've been waiting so long I don't want to have to wait even longer if I don't have to. How do you know if the dealer actually gets allocation and isn't just stringing you along?

Can dealerships get at least 4 Camaro allocations at a time?

Would you stay with the 1st dealership and hope that this time your order will actually get accepted (and not have to wait forever for it to get accepted) or would you go to the dealership who moves more Camaros and probably gets more allocation but you are 4th in line?
