there's a process that gen5diy goes thru to flash a new hmi unit for your car's specs and/or override similar car's hmi programming with your car's vin.

I think if they could update the hmi to allow a 7->8 screen upgrade - they would advertise that even if they didn't have a kit to include the necessary hardware. But they dont.

I dont think it'll be as simple as just getting an 8" hmi pkg from them and throwing the right cables and screen on it and having it work - but it might.

To test the theory, it'll only be about a 1500-1600 dollar investment (that could be entirely wrong and give you some nice paperweights (though you could re-sell the screen at least for whatever you managed to get it at off ebay)

ok, thanks, where can I find everything, like the radio and its components.

Like CellSafeMode stated, it can be a process that you invest in but can't complete due to missing pieces.

I have the complete service manual for the 2016/2017 (supposed to be ok for the 2018) if you want. This has the wiring diagrams as well as partnumbers for connectors and such.

You'll need IO6 module for NAV or IO5 just for the 8" screen. I don't think the radio needs to be changed, but that is a module in itself. Then the appropriate wiring harness for it to work, or add the wires with pins based on the service manual partnumbers.

PM me and I'll get you in contact with the GM guy and programmer I used when I upgraded to IO6. Going from 7" to 8" will not be an easy task. The cost alone is most likely why Gen5DiY hasn't developed a drop in solution.

just note, the actual displays do not need any programming to marry to the car. Despite what dealer gm parts stores will advertise if you try buying one new.

but that does mean buying new means having to deal with a dealership in person ....hence the suggestion to source that from ebay. Just be aware that old MY's have had the part number replaced many times and there may be multiple PN's that are compatible and multiple that aren't. An original 2017 part should be ok though (2016's suffered problems that caused black screens of death - so dont buy 2016pn's even if they'll match).

We do a decent amount of these on the K2 Truck/SUV and to be honest it sucks. You need the HMI, The Radio Module, The screen, programming for HMI and Radio and a metric ton of missing wiring; its a mess.

Thanks Chris. I wasn't sure about the Radio. And wiring... yeah... I gathered it would be fun.

You're welcome! this is one those scenarios where we really recommend you get an entire IP harness and pull the dash. Its WAY easier in the long run and thats still a TON of work. At that point you also upgrade the cluster and add steering wheel controls as well.

I agree. I was lucky when I did mine and already had the 8" screen. IP Harness is like $350 or so?

I would work with Gen5DIY and GTPprix. If $ is no object... then it should be able to be completed.
