I tried. Removed the panel above the rear view. Completely different connectors and wire colors from the OP's 2016 guide. I found ground and 12v on the airbag connector using a DMM. I inserted my RJ11 taps and verified 12v and ground on the correct RJ11 pins. Uniden R3 would not turn on. So I think there is some kind of current limiting on the airbag light connector now. Airbag light works fine still so it wasn't a fuse. I am looking into alternate tap locations and/or aftermarket options. For now I am just using the cigarette lighter.

Gen5Diy makes a harness that is pretty much just plug and play for the R3 and Camaro.

Thanks, I will be getting that. I probably could figure it out myself but I have already spent more time than it was worth. Just spend the money, dummy.

So did you get the gen5diy kit and did it work ok for your 19? I have a 19 2SS with the rear view camera and looking to make sure their kit will work. Also, did you purchase a Blendmount for yours?

I have the '19 kit. It comes with ~6 feet of extra cable because gen5diy now pulls from the HVAC module in the passenger footwell. They give good instructions on how to route it, but I do wish we could pull power from the onstar module like we did before.

Very clean once you get it installed, but pretty fiddly to get right at first.

Very good write up- Thanks!
I just followed it to do mine and it worked perfectly.

Couple of things: I didn't unplug all the clips, just the white one you used from the back. I just let the panel hang there.
I also used a wiretap line that came with my mirror mount (just like the one in your post)
It was too short to run under the headliner, so I just let it exit from the back of the panel and it still looks clean and hangs in a perfect spot when not plugged in.

anybody know which wires it taps into?
could save some upside-down neck strain.

edit:
nevermind, already taken care of:

robertd33 I posted the same question on your thread following the link above.

I need to connect an accessory to the tuner module which is located in the passenger footwell, in the panel right behind the glove box. This accessory needs switched power and I am looking for a switched power source in the passenger footwell area. The purple/white wire that you picked for your installation, as described in your writeup, would be ideal for that. Can this wire be used as a source of switched power?

That's OK, I will tap into the purple wire that goes onto the cigarette lighter power port under the center console, as described in this post:

As a note, I recently got my 17 ZL1 back from the body shop who had to pull the headliner down to chased an issue with the airbag and got it back with my V1 laying in the passenger seat so I had to go back and redo the install.

After a few tries with no power I discovered the purple wire had no power but the brown/white did. Just in the event others were having issues getting your radar detector powered up...

As mentioned in some other posts, the 22 models won't give you the appropriate power from all of the terminals behind the light/airbag plate.
I tried tapping the little light in the middle that is always on when the car is on, and it gave the radar detector enough power to buzz, but that was it.

Before I give up and do something under the glove box or from the cig lighter I was going to try the terminals under the plastic cover in front of the glove box (if that makes sense).
I couldn't get the connector to pop out, so i was wondering if anyone has tried this, and should I even waste my time? And, how do i get this connector to come off?

Don't waste your time like I did. Tap into the purple wire that goes onto the cigarette lighter power port under the center console. This is the safest way to do it and it will give you the power that you need.

So I tapped into the always on light in the overhead console of my 19 ZLE and it is powering my R3 just fine. Once you shut the car off and lock it, radar turns off.

I admit defeat. I'm back to the lighter plug. All I get now is a buzz and no power. Guess it's time to run some longer wires.
