ZL1 order

Hi everyone, I placed my order with a dealer last week but they are a small dealer and are unsure if they will even get an allocation. Is it acceptable to try and order with another dealer at the same time who is also insure if they will get an allocation?
I have never special ordered a ZL1 before and just want to make sure I actually get one. My thinking is that when one dealer gets the allocation I cancel with the other.

Hello there!

People have been doing this a lot, especially with high-demand cars like the Corvette for example. Note that some dealers will require you put down a deposit, even before they're able to officially put in the order in the system but, if they do and you're ok with it, do make sure it's 100% refundable.

By the way, I see you're from California. So I assume your order is for a 2022, given that 2021 ZL1s can no longer be ordered in California and Washington states due to copper content in brake pads (that's being addressed for 2022). Even so, it would be virtually impossible to get an allocation for a 2021 at this point anyway.

The dealer should be able to find out if they have an Allocation. My dealer had to ask the district sales manager. I’m in Canada though so it could be different in the states. Go over to the Camaro Tracking/ordering/ pricing dealer section and check in over there.

^This exactly! You could put orders in for as many dealerships as you want then when one gets the order picked up, cancel with the others. Just make sure the deposit is 100% refundable and I would even have the sales manager sign his name next to something written on paper/sent on email to you stating that the deposit is 100% refundable.

Orders are being accepted with order numbers generated for the 2022 Camaros. I was able to place my order this morning for a 2022 M6 Vivid Orange ZL1 1LE. With a $1,000 deposit, my order is third in line for a new Camaro at the dealership and the first ZL1. Production is set to begin in late September as of now. I understand there is no online tool anymore to track my order through the ordering and production phases so I plan to use the Camaro6.com forums for updates for ZSRTJG.

I ended up canceling my order with the first dealership because the dealer wouldn’t give me my order number. He said he wouldn’t have an order number until GM picked up the order. I told him he was full of it and give me back my deposit. Why do dealers make stories and act shady?

Most of them don't or won't try and get this involved with people, it's not shady but ordering a car kind of demands finding the right dealer that will cater to the needs of people that want specific hipo cars.

Spend some time and look thru. You will understand what is going on and what do you need to expect during this shortage with GM.

My new dealer placed the preliminary order today and Sent me a 6 digit order number I was able verify with GM code 1100. New dealer said GM wouldn’t start accepting those orders till later next month. First dealer wouldn’t even place the preliminary order.
