Dead battery. Car thinks it a hybrid truck now

I hadn't started the car in a few weeks. Went out to a dead battery. Jumped it and everything seemed fine. Radio and hud was all reset so I started fixing everything then I noticed something strange. The color theme was now red and there is a menu for hybrid and when I checky tire pressure it shows a truck. My menus are all changed and I have no performance menu. It's also manual but showing like it's auto Anyone heard of this? I'm out of warranty and don't want to pay money for them to reprogram my radio if there is some easy fix. Thanks!

OK, that is really weird. No idea, needs a reset of some kind or another.

Does it improve your mileage? Sorry, couldn't resist

Good luck, please keep us posted.

Try unhooking the negative battery lead and letting it sit for 10 minutes to reset before reconnecting. I've seen mine change to the Camaro display that has a boost gauge but that usually fixes itself when I start the vehicle and have never seen it switch to a different vehicle like that (looks like the screen from a GMC). If that doesn't fix it, I'd still call the dealer. Even out of warranty that's a pretty blatant software issue that could (and really should) be covered by the dealer/GM that age or mileage wouldn't have an impact on, assuming a module didn't get fried when jumping or something like that.

Maybe a new battery is in order and with it you will get a reset. These cars do weird things when there is low voltage. Mine has. You however win the prize for the most weird outcome.

I wish I had more to offer. Good luck and keep us posted.

I agree with both Alpha1BC & SSDan, I would disconnect the battery and have it checked out to insure it’s healthy and properly charged. Remember it is an AGM battery, requiring different procedures. Good luck!

mine does that when the battery died. After I disconnected it and charged the battery, it was fine.

There are other display themes in the multitarget DIC software. Looks like your BCM crapped itself, presumably due to low voltage/fluctuations, did not recognize you have a Camaro and switched to another model's display. Some folks with a non-ZL1 car saw the voltage gauge get temporarily swapped out for the ZL1 boost gauge under similar conditions.

I also think the easiest fix is to bring the battery back to normal conditions or to get another one, it should sort itself out.

That said, I wouldn't mind a nice red/steel flavored display theme for my garnet red car, heh.

Have you contacted OnStar? Some problems can be solved by a remote reset.

It's a hybrid alright, just like a Dodge Charger...

But seriously, I think unhooking the battery and waiting would be my first step. Meanwhile, use a proper AGM battery charger to charge the battery properly.

Next time you park the car for a while, it might be a good idea to put it in Transport Mode.

Charge the battery on a tender with the negative cable disconnected. This avoids issues with parasitic drain from awake modules causing a fault on the tender and leaving you with a dead battery.

Be careful with transport mode if your car is misbehaving. Certain functions like trunk unlock may not work. Have a standby power supply available that can provide a few amps to the underhood terminals in case of problems, and keep the car unlocked.

In-case anyone finds this looking for answers.

The car returned to normal after about two hours later after a restart. It just fixed itself right after a start. Didn't have to disconnect the battery or anything. Was going to do it the next day if it didn't fix itself.

Got a battery tender on there now. Got the NOCO Genuis10 set for 12v AGM. I'm sure the Genuis5 would have worked but I have a problem with over doing it.

Verifying its an AGM battery was a pain in the ASS since I have a large speakerbox back there that I have to take out every time I need to get to the battery and the battery mount blocks the label but I did verify it the 48AGM, I kept seeing different reports for the battery on the 6th gen SS and since mine was part of the first run I wanted to make 100% sure it was right.

Have the NOCO hardwired to the battery terminals now and just plug it in whenever I get home with an extender. Now I just gotta remember to unplug the damn thing before I back out the garage. Leaving the trunk open for now.

Thanks! Just had the same thing happen to me. Phew.
