Guys. If the guy is asking how to remove a headrest, chances are his intelligence is low enough to explain the fact that he can't understand how great of a safety measure it is.

(other) Humans have evolved to be so smart and be able to find ways to avoid natural selection so it is normal that we will see some of them popping up from time to time.

Personally I rather have the ability to see out and around me while driving as good as I can make it versus thinking about the remote possibility of being hit in the rear. Super defensive driving and well over a million miles kind of makes that possibility even less. There are many other reasons why some people want to pull out a headrest and not necessarily by a person of low intelligence, maybe they want to improve fit or effectiveness.

Tell me how super defensive driving will get you out of that:

You're standing still at an intersection waiting for the green light to come. A drunk driver or distracted driver arrives behind you and doesn't stop.

It's a dumb move, whatever you will say.

And just out of curiosity, do you have insurance for your car or your house? If yes, why do you? Super precautions to avoid fire or injury is sufficient enough. Let me know when you get all your insurances cancelled! I can even help you with that.

You bring up a good point Camaro_QC, an insurance company could very well deny coverage because a vehicle safety system was tampered with.

They will deny responsibility because the safety system was modified. Same as manufacturers do when you supercharge your car.

He might never get into an accident. But the real thing is IF IT HAPPENS. We never plan for accident to happen (except for testing), we always plan to reduce the impact.of such an accident.

My mother in law removed her head rests as well. I keep asking her to allow me to put them back but she declines. She is 75 and very set in her ways so there is not much I can do. When I take her car to put gas in it I am terrified.

When I want to improve visibility, I put the top down. Get a convertible and keep the head rests on. Much safer.

Every accident I've had, I was rear ended while stopped. I actually avoided....one....of those too.

Tourist town + cell phones = Death.

Thanks for your offer, but I have 32 years in the auto and home insurance industry . I also drive with out collision coverage. My coverage covers me for everything that is out of my control. While driving I feel I have enough control over the many possibilities and have a chance to steer clear or get away from trouble. I also realize and am very aware of the risks.

Not true, 32 years handling auto damage claims in the field and have never seen or heard of a claim being denied with a insured on his own policy regarding modifications to the insured auto or even defective equipment.

As a former auto injury adjuster I can assure you that I would deny your claim and print and attach this thread to my file. Best of luck with the jury.

I love the ‘other people do dangerous things so this is alright’ argument.
