vehicle break ins, grabbing codes
someone’s breaking into my vehicle everywhere I go, spitting in it and stealing stuff without actually breaking the windows in, I believe there grabbing codes. How can I reprogram my locks To void any grabbed codes so they can’t get in and turn off keyless entry

You can't reprogram your locks. You'll have to take it to a dealer.

I think I’ve seen this episode of “Ex’s get revenge” before.
Or maybe that’s not spit if it looks like a loogy. |

spoofing car fobs is fairly easy.. especially if you park close to where you are when you leave your car (signal boosting relay).
You can test the theory that they dont have a fob programmed to your car by placing your fob in aluminum foil ..tightly wrapped. If no breakins occur then, you know they're using a relay to get you. If it still happens, then they have their own fob (either your spare or they worked the dealership into getting them a replacement). I dont believe the older method of recording the fob while using the non-passive remote buttons works these days. Usually it's the relay method. You must have done something special to get such a fan. |

If you reprogrammed all the key fobs would that change the coding?

programming a fob yourself involves taking a fob and marrying it to the car's coding/encryption key whatever you want to call it. It doesn't change what the car is expecting. So if they're opening your doors, they have what your car expects (or are relaying your fob).
A dealer would have to update a module on your car to have a new key code and then you'll have to reprogram your fobs. That's assuming they haven't cloned your physical key. If they're using a relay (the most common method) then re-programming your car and fobs will do nothing. Use the tin foil method first. It's free. It will tell you definitively what you need to do next as long as you utilize it in every situation where you leave the car over whatever period of time you normally have a breakin. |

if you determine they are getting in with the relay method this set up may help for a more long term fix. https://navtv.com/products/category/...ure-a-key.html

A faraday pouch, bag, or box is a more normal looking version of wrapping the fob in aluminum foil and much cheaper than the secure a key but you have to remember to use it.

at one time, I also kept a batteryless key fob in one of these, in the car, for emergency's (assuming I can at least unlock the doors with my phone) also, for all model years, you can reprogram the keys yourself if you have at least 1 (for 17 and under), or atleast 2 (for 18 and up). if you don't have that many, then the process takes at least 30 minutes (3 10 minute waiting periods). both processes should change the codes on all keys however, if someone has an old fob of yours, they most likely have the emergency key as well. Now, in my experience, if my doors are locked, and I open them with the emergency key, the alarm goes off, every time, followed by a subsequent email from onstar saying someone is possibly tampering with my vehicle.
