I'd stay away from Motive. The machining on their gears is not good quality. Even having backlash set perfect, your going to have excessive gear whine.

Go with AAM instead. Their kit is $90 less as well. It's listed as
2010-2015 Chevy Camaro V8 GM 8.6" IRS 218MM 3.91 Ring and Pinion Master Gear Pkg on Ebay.

Since your taking the differential apart, I'd also go ahead and replace the factory clutch pack with an Eaton True Trac.

Go with the Chevy ones or whomever makes the Chevrolet ones.
Most people swapping gears to 3.91 Chevy ones don’t need anything shimmed if just changing the gears.

No doubt if going 3.91 the gm gear is the way to go. What about those going 4.11 though?

I'd personally go the GM route for 3.91's. I installed Motive 4.11's in my M6 and am very happy with the performance and reliability. Over 3000 miles without issues so far

I went with AAM gears for mine. I got mine thru lingenfelter performance. the have the bearing kit also. I got the 3:70's . they also have the 3:91 cheap, plus bearing kit. mine machined so tight didn't need pinion shim. NO WHINE!!! perfect! other vendors on here can gladly help you with your decision. this is the best group of people on this forum to guide you. these folks help this oldman all the time.

I am newer to the 5th Gen world & am just getting my mods done. I am looking at 3.91 gears now.

I am needing info though. If I swap out the rear diff w/ another rear diff that has 3.91 gears, say from a 1LE... Do I have to change the axle shafts?? Anything else I need to be looking for as well?? I did my headers last week & am looking to move to the gears next. I am mechanically inclined, but this will be my 1st experience with IRS set ups... Any info/advice you guys can offer will be appreciated.

I am thinking just finding a rear diff assembly w/3.91 gears will make for a pretty simple swap. However, I am new to it & do not want to under-estimate the challenge or run into it not having any info...

Thanks.

The 3.91 diff bolts right in.The SS axle shafts while being a little different from the le works with the Le diff.
I would change the axle seals.
Do a search for differential replace etc.
What hp and torque are you looking for If going over 600 rwhp then you might want to look at the zl1 diff swap.

Right now I just have CAI, Headers w/cat delete, Full 3 inch exhaust, & a street tune... Dyno was down, but I will be getting on it next week to get numbers & do some final adjustments... I think that will get me pretty close to 400 at the wheels... Close anyway.

I want to do the 3.91 gears & then will look at cam & intake/TB kits this winter...

I will be using AAM when I do mine for sure. This way I will know for certain there will be no issues.
