ZL1 Upgrade Worth it from 2SS 1LE?

Currently have a 2018 1LE w/ 2SS package. At the time of purchase, I thought 455hp would be enough. Drove a ZL1 this weekend.. and now I really want that added power. But not sure if I’m better off just supercharging my current car.

Thoughts? What would you guys do?

The ZL1 makes all the changes to account for the increased weight and power. Everything from spring rates, sway bar stiffness, MRC calibrations, E-diff. calibrations, TQ management, etc, etc, etc.

Except then you still get bored with it eventually and end right back up in the same boat.......

Upgrade! You won’t regret it! I upgraded from a 2016 2SS to a used 2017 ZL1 and am happy I did. Now the only problem is putting a lot of miles on the ZL1 which I guess is a good thing! Go for it is what I say.

the problem is these modern cars are just so tame when you drive them normally - they don't feel like raging monsters until you really step hard on them - and even then unless you turn off some of the nannies they self govern themselves to the available traction.
Sure - it makes them supremely fast and safe. But it's not as fun as it used to be!

My other ride is an old school 525hp / 500tq 406 w/ T56 and that car is never ever boring to drive. Just sitting it in while idling is exhilarating! It runs mid 11's so it's not exactly slow either, but probably similar overall acceleration as a ZL1. My '16 SS is no slouch - should be good for mid 12's, but it feels so tame and boring in comparison.
But then again I also drive it a lot more miles too, so I am pretty used to it.

It is true you get used to whatever power level you have....
But comes a point there is only so much you can use on street tires on variable street surfaces.

LOL, Then you need to find a different hobby...

Sport bikes, flying, snowmobiles, water crafts, etc.

Flying (especially aerobatic flying) and snowmobiling rounds out my speed and G force addictions.

As much as I love cars and canyon carving, it doesn't come close to the thrill of flying aerobatics and pulling 4 G's in a loop. Even non-aerobatic flying is just as fun for me as canyon carving.

I was in the same place you were. Sold an E46 M3, got a 2017 2SS. Drove the ZL1 1LE, and traded the 2SS on an M6 ZL1 1LE. The only regret that I have was spending money the aftermarket wheels and other MODs on the 2SS.

There is a whole lot to say for this, especially with a road track version. People always ask me when I'm going to add more power and my answer is no reason to at this point. Plenty of car to learn and handle as it is with no cooling issues or worries other than normal maintenance.

I’m in the get it from the factory crowd. I love my SS 1LE, but when the kids don’t need to be driven to school anymore (1.5 years till the middle son can drive the two youngest) I’ll probably move the SS to the back of the garage and buy either a ZL1 1LE or a factory supercharged new Vette, if they’re available.

Slippery slope my friend....

Its real easy to get used to HP, especially on the street. I've got two in the garage currently, one @ 1000hp and another @ around 1800. Ain't done yet....
