Rear license plate mounting

Does the rear license plate just screw through the rear body plastic? I see there are several dimples in the plastic that I assume line up with license plates from various countries. If it just screws to the body, have you found a good looking plate surround so it looks a little more finished?

I like screw covers and no frame. Noticed my reflection on the covers.

+1 for the silicones. The only one that doesn't scratch the paint, plus it has tiny weep holes at the bottom, so it doesn't retain moisture either. The ones I bought have nice black screw covers as well, which makes for a proper, finished look.

I just put a small rubber washer between the plate and the paint on each screw.
Keep in mind that area will be covered up in the same way the whole time you have the car.

Another option:

I like my metal chrome "outline" plate frame, but appreciated the protective intent behind the silicone - so I trimmed off the raised portion of a silicone plate frame and mounted that behind my chrome frame. (Might be more cost effective to cut a piece from a sheet of flat silicone for this approach.)

I had the rear bumper off of mine to install an areo package; there is extra reinforcement behind each dimple for the license plate screw. Just don't get it off center like some I have seen!

If you guys want true protection that won't damage the paint: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...9565/203661091

Directly onto the paint where the plate will contact. At least 2 behind there. Silicone plates, I highly doubt thats a tight seal which means over time, dust and dirt will get behind it, and vibrations over time may rub all that into your paint. Similar to those black bras you install on the front end, like the old days. Cringe.

Same if you stick some kind of pad/washer onto the plate itself. If you stick those bumper pads onto the paint itself, dirt/dust will only rub against the plate, not the paint. Pads will also allow water to drain and the area breathe back there.

Yes, I'm this ****ing anal.
