A few years from now I may tackle the "hard plastic overhaul project" I've thought of occasionally, plus see if a larger infotainment screen module could be squeezed in (after all, I could simply add an SD card reader to the USB panel and it worked out of the box, even its icon was correct with a card inserted).
I think the 6th gen will age much better, especially the 2SS with the ambient light. The 5th gen was pretty dated from the get-go. I understand they were going for more of a retro look, but aside from the HUD, it was pretty basic interior for a 2010 vehicle, especially one that GM was counting on for strong sales after the bailout. I think the exterior of the 5th gen has aged exceptional as it was a throwback to the '69 and the halos/20 inch rims made the thing pop for me.

We'll see about the 6th gen interior, to me it feels like the perfect mix of modern and traditional, but it does have a few controversial spots.

Yeah, no arguing that the 5th gen exterior is very sinister and muscular. The only aspect GM wasn't able to get perfectly right there IMO is the taillights, neither the 10-13 nor the 14-15 style appealed to me in particular. Notwithstanding that, it was a black 2015 SS that made me fall in love with the Camaro in the first place, I'm a relative noob compared to many here

This is what stopped me from buying a 5th Gen… I just couldn’t get over how ugly it was.

It was a little better if you had the manual trans. Also, they finally started ditching the gold bow-ties. I remember buying those darn black stickers off E-Bay to cover the gold bowties in black.

Totally, automatic transmissions are an abomination.

It wasn’t just the automatic shifter… it’s also those ugly ass gauges and knobs that looked totally out of place / designed by a child pulled away from his Lego’s.

The 10-13 taillights looked so good the C7 needed to steal the design language. I figured that's why 2013 was the last year for Camaro having them so the 2014 Corvette could. Apparently they couldn't be round anymore.

To be honest the 14-15 refresh was and still is offensive. Specifically that crappy fake chrome strip on the front of RS models and how much more unpainted black plastic was added to the rear.

Unlike the 19+ abomination, the 10-13 rear is a plausible and consistent design, I'll gladly give you that, I just subjectively don't like it. The 5th gen refresh tails looked a bit weird and worse in terms of design language, but not excessively.

I got rid of mine because of that keyfob hanging down behind the steering wheel. Why, in an accident you could ram your knee into thing turning the car off disabling the steering, brakes, and airbag leading to serious injury, lol.

Come on guys, the 5th gen was not that bad for that era. I had a 12 2ss/rs with manual transmission and was about to trade it for a ZL1 back in the day. Test drove so many of them. Manuals, including the ZL1 comes with the bulky Hurst short throw shifter. Those auxiliary gauges lid up nice at night time. Weight wise, the ZL1 did feel heavy however, even the current GT500 is almost as heavy as the 5th gen ZL1 but still can dance with wider tires. ZL1 also has the magnetic ride which I believe Chevy used C6 ZO6/ZO7 as the donor for it.

Now compared to a six gen 1le, especially a 22 model year, I can honestly say that you made the right decision. In my opinion I would rather consider a C6 ZO6 or a C7 GS over a fifth gen ZL1. C7 might be out of reach considering the pricing (thank you covid19), but a lightly used C6 ZO6 can be bought around the same price as a SS 1le. 3100 lbs and 450 whp/torque is pretty tempting.

I liked the gauges, they were a throwback to the classics. You couldn't get them on a 1SS.

Also the 10-11 steering wheel looked much better than the 12-15, they looked like they fit the camaro whereas the 12-15 looked like any regular Chevy sedan.

I dont get the hate for the 5th gen. The interiors are not that much different. Jumping from my 13 1LE to my fiances 22 1LE.......Still feel like I'm in a camaro. No way are they THAT different to where this conversation is even happening talking about ugly interiors. I recall the 6th gen upon release, people calling it the gen 5.5 due to the exterior not changing much over the 14/15. Well.... same can be said about the interior.

If we want to talk performance, that's a conversation to be had. When my car was FBO making 462whp and 460tq, that A10 would be right at my door hanging with me. On a track or autocross my 1LE vs her 1LE, not even a question of whose is better.

I love reading your posts / disdain for the 19’s taillights and bumper. Seriously, I do.. I start laughing every time I see them. Not that I think your wrong, or right.. we’re all just so different in what we think looks good. Abomination

Oh, I’m not at all not discounting the appeal for some on the gauges and knobs. It was just one of those things for me. I saw a Camaro in a car show (as a current mustang owner). The Camaro looked awesome and I was all excited walking around it… and thought, maybe I can finally move away from being a Stang guy. Once I sat in the car, that center stack just hit me the wrong way.
