Ignition won't release key?

So lately, every single time I try to turn off my car, the key will not turn all the way and then get locked in the ignition. It will only turn to the ACC (?) notch.

To retrieve my key, I have to turn the key forward a notch (not start the car) and then put the car in reverse and then back in park. USUALLY, it then releases the key.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've read some say its a battery issue (mine's fine.) and some say the tumblers on the ignition get stuck, but I feel that wouldn't be able to be resolved by the step I have to go through. I'm planning to take my car to the dealership sometime this week, but until then I just want to know if anyone has a clue what's wrong.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!! PS- I know a thread like this was posted before- I have read it. The thing is, it really didn't help me figure out what was wrong.

Yes I had the same issue you were having. There is something wrong with a module or a part in the shifter that prevents you from removing the key from the ignition. My dealer replaced a part in the shifter and i can remove my key fine now.

Was it a part they had to order? Or did they just do it on the spot?

They had it in stock at my dealership. They had to fix this problem on several camaros before me. I do not know what specific part they actually replaced though. I will look at the paperwork to find out.
