I'm gonna have to go with the Z/28. It will the most collectable. Due to a few reasons all already mentioned. First and foremost, it's notariety. The car has been talked about in just about every automotive media circle, it's famous. Second, it's rarity, low production numbers almost gaurantees collectability. Third, simply what it is, a racecar made barely street legal for the hard core enthusiast. Which is probably the biggest reason it doesn't sell that well, people like all their gadgets. However, in time, it's low sales may add to the mystique.

The COPO is a compelling argument, but they lack notariety. They also were really geared for the pro, or semi-pro drag racer. This COPO program is nothing nearly as cool as the first gens where customers and/or dealers i.e. Yenko Chevrolet could order up different components, like a 427, to be sold as a street car.

How many 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlasses do you see running around? About as many as a new Camaro COPO. But there were pushing 250,000 (yes, it's true) 1984 Olds Cutlasses out the door in 1984. SO...even as a grocery getter, even with nearly a quarter million units built in 1 year, they die off. So there's a good possibility of the 5th gen being a rare sight in 20 years.

And out of that nearly quarter million Cutlasses in 84, Hurst converted 3,500 of those Calais models to Hurst/Oldses for 1984, with Hurst being one of the first Teir 1 conversion companies to "upfit" cars from the factory. Mainly a graphic package (mid-80s standard fare it seems), but did have some special pieces parts like gearing, different engine, and VIN change. I've got #19 of 3500.

A well preserved one 30 years from now will be a collectible.

I have a feeling the Z28 without air conditioning and radio will be the one collectors are after.
Same here: Copo may be worth more money but I don't see it as anything more then a trailer or garage queen at that point. I was looking at this question as most collectible Current gen Camaro you can drive to a car show and enjoy.

Z/28 But I think with A/C and Radio as people will be only getting softer and it will be a very rich man buying it. Also maybe a silver or grey with original paint.

I didn't realize there were Synergy Green SS Camaros, I thought they were all LTs.

Wow...I love it! My first car was a 1984 Cutlass Supreme...I knew very little about cars at the time, I thought it was a 305, but I did some searching to verify, and it looks like it would have been a 307? Either way, first gear was shot and it leaked oil like crazy. Only paid $350. Great time with it!

We wont throw the Dusk edition Camaro's in there? Granted they wont pull COPO money but I think those were just as if not more rare than the Hot Wheels and Synergy ones. I would also add the 13' 1LE's in there to be worth something wayyyy down the line. Yeah the 1LE's from 14 on are all over the place but when they came out initially they were still pretty unknown and rare.

The problem with the COPO is it isn't street legal. For the most part the same cars will be parked in garages and never used, therefore the rarity will not increase.

Sad to say, but the Z/28s will be driven, wrecked and will increase in rarity, people will also want to buy a car they can take out and drive once in a while.

The ones that will be most collectible and most valuable down the line will be ones that are as close to bone stock as it gets with all original parts and matching VINs.

30-40 years down the line, these cars will be centerpieces of auto shows (in whatever form they exist in at that point). The Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, and Chargers are the new age american classics that will define an era. However, people are going to want to see them as they were, and not the heavily modified hulking beasts that have developed since they were debuted.

Maybe one of these Dale Earnhardt Hall Of fame limited editions. Only 10 made & the holographic paint is amazing in person.

If you go to any dirt track in the USA, you see old Camaros running in the stock and modifed classes. I wonder if the 5th Gen will become a popular dirt track car in the future? I've wondered how many Camaros got destroyed on circle tracks.

none of the gen 5's will sell for more than their original price, ever. though they're great cars, there's nothing remarkable about them that would cause someone to pay significantly more than what they originally sold for. value is about more than just rarity.
