The fix for this is to get AFM turned off via a tuner though this could cause the dealer to void your warranty. I'm do not believe that you can turn off AFM any other way on the Gen6 cars either.

The rough idle can be literally anything. No one here will be able to diagnose it so you may as well get your car back to the dealer.
No. No shutter when switching on the LT1.

Well that's news to me, I never knew these had AFM. I thought it was 8 cylinders all the time no matter what. I never saw this mentioned anywhere through our thorough research when buying this car.

I thought about disconnecting the battery. That was always the first thing to do on newer vehicles when things were acting up. However, I don't see how you get to the positive battery cable with the battery locked away in the trunk with a tiny access point.
Yes the auto cars have cylinder deactivation. There is a page on the display that shows whether it's in v8 or v4 mode

^news to me. I'm still reading through the manual. I'll have to check that out.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I'll keep you guys updated on what happens. That would be something if it was cheap 87 octane gas they put in it-obviously best case scenario.

AFM can be defeated by using a Range device plugged into the OBDII port. This is what I have done. I want 8 cylinders all the time. I don't care about gas mileage.

My afm is not detectable unlike my 15 2ss where it was constantly in and out. I made my dealer put in 93 right from the start. No issues. I'm averaging about 25 mpg so the afm really works and I wouldn't turn mine off, at least not on this car.

I wouldn't have taken delivery of the car without a test drive and left it at the dealer. It may be something simple; it may not. Either way I would bring it right back and have them look at it.

Shouldn't be AFM unless it's malfunctioning. That should not activate on acceleration and typically not until you reach a certain speed too. As others have stated, it should be undetectable if it's functioning properly.

That's not good news!

Thanks for the info everyone!

Luckily AZ seems to have a pretty strict lemon law so you can bet I will be thoroughly recording every visit to the shop this car makes.

We picked up our 2016 2SS on Monday the 7th. This was after a 41 day wait for the car to arrive to the dealership after we bought it (another story).

On startup at the dealership when idling the car feels like its missing. I thought maybe it just needs to be broken in or rough idle as the LT1 is known for. This though seems more of a miss than a rough idle. I've had big cammed cars and performance vehicles in the past and this just doesn't seem like a rough idle. You can even hear it in the exhaust every few seconds.

Then on the 34 mile drive home the CEL came on, flashed for a few minutes then turned off. I put my ELM327 on the port to see if there were any codes which there was not-maybe a hidden code I can't see with my cheap adapter?

Since day one when accelerating while driving the transmission (A8) stutters like crazy before taking off. It does this every time you hard accelerate while moving. Doesn't seem to do it from a dead stop. The stutter is massive to the point of moving you around in the seat before it takes off. In manual mode it shifts fine without any stutter.

I am very curious what you all think about these issues before taking it in the dealer. Am I jumping the gun with only 100 miles on the car? These issues, especially the transmission doesn't seem like something a break in will resolve.

I did read almost every thread in this section to see if I was missing something. I'm tempted to check every plug, unplug and plug it back in as that seems to cause some issues with other peoples vehicles. At the same time I don't know if I should go rooting around with a brand new (100 mile) car then catch flack at the dealership/warranty.

Do you guys think pulling the battery cable to reset everything would do anything-that used to be a quick fix when odd things were going on.

Thanks in advance!
I had the same problem. Ended up being that I had bad valves/lifters.
Then it persisted a bit after the dealership only replaced the right side.
So I drove the s*** out of it, WOT runs on empty streets, basically driving it like I stole it to have the CEL come on and stay on.

Took it to a different service dept and they "re-flashed" the computer.

Hopefully I'm not too late on chiming in, I only read your original post.
Here's to hoping that this info help!

I don't understand how a brand new car has bad valves and lifters! That's insane!!

I thought about doing the same. Just hammering on the car until either something major happens or the issues are more pronounced. The dealer we bought the car from is 34 miles away so the initial service trip will be back there. Then I will probably start taking the car to the chevy right down the road from me.

Thanks for the input!

Problem solved!!

I decided to take the plunge and start checking things under the hood. Really didn't want to be without the car in the shop. All harness plugs seemed fine, air filter and MAF was fine.

THEN........

I started checking plug wires. Cylinders 2 and 6's plug wires I barely touched and they fell off the spark plugs. Reinstalled them correctly and literally every issue has stopped.

Car idles so smooth you wouldn't even know it was running, acceleration is ridiculous and throws you back in the seat, all the shifting issues are gone.

To think we almost took the thing back to the dealership today. So happy it was a quick fix!

Again thanks for all the help guys!
