3D printed vent gauge pod
Hey has anyone printed this vent gauge pod yet? While there’s no blueprint for this with dimensions, it sure looks like it would fit our cars. I’ll have to load this up in Solidworks and get some dimensions to see how close it is to being a viable option.
In the meantime, I just wanted to see who has made this print. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3014198

The suspense got the best of me. I’ll just print one and give an update.

Well the Sonic vent on Thingiverse (1st picture) might look close to our vents, but it’s not the same. Printed it out and it was a solid 0.048” undersize on the OD.
So I made 2 new solid models and will print them.

Success! Air flow is nice considering the larger diameter bore to accommodate the gauge bezel. I printed this using cubic fill for extra support between inner and outer walls.

Nice modeling work. You'll want a final version in ASA or ABS so it doesn't deform while sitting in a hot car during the summer. ASA has UV protection which would be better for a convertible. I even have PLA+ getting soft with a few failures this year for parts in the cabin from afternoons in the summer sun.
Is there a back behind the vent to protect it from cold or hot air? The electronics won't like temp extremes in the long run.

Responded to PM
Thank you. It was a fun little project. Quote:
This is what prompted me to make my own. This was printed in ABS over 3 years ago. It has been great and there are no issues with it 3+ years later. I tried PLA & PLA+ and they lasted under a week in the summer heat. No there isn’t a back and that’s because the Banks gauge does put off a small amount of heat and I wanted it to “breathe”. As for the electronics tolerating the open back, the Banks gauge hasn’t missed a beat and functions fine. What would you define as extreme temperature and what timeline do you feel is the long run?

Thanks! I ran the wires straight out of the back of the pod and behind the drivers side dash cover right into the OBDII port.
