Catch Cans?

Since the new V6 is direct injected will we need catch cans like all the other DI engines?

I went ahead and purchased a 15 dollar Ebay universal catch can. From the youtube reviews I've seen of it, it seems to function despite lacking all the bells and whistles.

I thought I read somewhere the Elite catch can for the LFX might work on ours. Waiting to see who will be first to develop one for us tho. I'm definitely interested in getting one added.

they all would "work" for our car. It's just a matter of if you have a custom bracket set to fit it somewhere or if you have to rig something up yourself. That's about the only thing car specific possible for a catch can other than absolute size limitations.

Ok, So i've been researching how the installation worked for 5th gen V6's. Obviously some major changes were made for the LGX that change the game.

I'm currently unable to pin-point where a catch can would even be spliced in. I can't find any documentation on what's what on this motor yet either.

Has anyone even verified if there is a pcv tube on the lgx? I thought I read that the LGX has a builtin oil/air separator that performs 3x better than the lfx, and perhaps that's all internal?

I felt under the insulation pretty good and I dont think there are any tubes going to the top of the manifold like the LFX had.

I guess nobody has done a lgx catch can yet. Sucks that the service manual won't be released till 7-11-16.

Seems like maybe the pcv system is built into the intake manifold from the bottom? Unlike the v8, it sounds like there is a built in our separation system on our pcv system already. http://media.cadillac.com/media/us/e...illac-36l.html

Perhaps further confirming that the V6 doesn't need a catch can.

300 miles (yes, not very many but there will be more to come).

Here are some pictures of the intake looking at all the openings that tubes connect to and the throttle body. It doesn't appear that any other tubes connect to the intake manifold so unless the pcv setup is built into the bottom of the intake manifold and connects directly to the engine block... I dont see any oil at all anywhere. GM made upgrades to the oil / air separation mechanism and unless i'm totally missing where it's at (very possible) it seems to be working.

Guess i'll sit my catch can on the shelf.

2300 miles. Just replaced my throttle body.

Took a photo of the inside of my intake manifold. It looks clean. Good news for our valves as far as I can tell. I'm no engineer or even remotely knowledgeable about engine building. So, I could be way off base.

There are tubes attached to the intake and the valve covers. So there is some type of recirculating going on. I can't recall seeing that on other engines I've owned.

Edit: sorry about the sideways photo.

Ported throttle body by Jason@JacFab. I put up a thread for it.

I see, will be keeping an eye on that to see what that ends up costing and if there is a core-charge.

Also good to further verify that the V6 doesn't need any aftermarket catch cans.
