RS V6 Quite a Nice and Fun Car!!

I am between muscle cars at the moment and biding my time to buy something probably first of the year. Sold my 6th gen 2SS for a pickup reluctantly and am having withdrawal symptoms. Anyway:

Our every day driver was rear ended a few weeks ago and we had it in the body shop for 3 days and I was able to rent an RS V6 from enterprise for that time. I tell you, I was very impressed with the way that car looked, handled and how powerful it was. It wouldn't exactly satisfy my need for speed, but it certainly would have made an excellent EDD.

I will more than likely buy something from one of the forum members who are parting with very low mile gorgeous 1LEs. Awesome cars.

I agree, for just a general fun and economical car the V6 is a blast. I just recently bought a 2018 V6 A8 1LT with the RS package. Came from a 2016 Mustang V6. I definitely like the Camaro better overall. I have a 600 rwhp 2000 Camaro SS as my weekend/summer toy, so the V6 fits the bill perfectly for a nice balance of fun and economy all rolled into one

It's easy to forget, and it wasn't that long ago, but the current Camaro RS V6 is faster, stock for stock, than the last of the 4th gen F-bodies with the 5.7 350.

ehhh….not sure I'd go that far. They are pretty close, but the old 4th gen SS was a bit faster in the 1/4 mile for the average consumer, and sure as heck "felt" faster with all that torque.

Not bashing the V6, as I'm a big fan.

I have yet to see a legit race between these two cars, but would love to. My buddy ran 13.5 at 104 in his bone stock 2001 WS6 automatic. I have a feeling this car will be right there. I'll know this spring when I run it. Hell my stock 2016 Mustang V6 13.8 at 101, and it's 35 hp less and 100 lbs heavier than this 6th gen V6 Camaro

No they run about the same times. I ran a 99 trans am with lid and exhaust at beech bend when I had 100 miles on mine and ran a 13.8@103 to his 14.0. Other forum members have been as fast as 13.5 in their stock V6's. Right there with 4th gen Fbodys and not too too far off 5th gen SS automatics running low 13's.

I think the SS had an extra 25 hp over the Z28. 325. And a different rear end. So the SS was probably a wee bit faster than the current RS V6, but the current V6 is faster than the 4th gen Z28.

98 WS6 Manual 6 speed (335 hp) with Cat Back 13.3 in the quarter. I think it was at 106 mph at Englishtown N.J.. Stock tires and engine. The 2000 and above had 350 hp due to different intake.

Love my 2018 1LT V6 with RS & tech package. Fast enough for me (not a gearhead or fanboy). Reg gas and cheaper insurance are pluses.

They were officially rated 305 add 15 for an SS add 10 for a catback. All 01-02’s had the ls6 intake and were rated the same. Realistically they would dyno almost 300whp stock so they were underrated since it’s the same exact engine as the corvette minus dbw.

Well he did say 350 so I assume he is referring to the pre-LS LT1 350, In which case I would bet on the 6th Gen v6.
LS1 Fbody would most likely pull a 6th gen v6

Okay guys, not trying to be "that guy", I've owned a 3.6 V6 for about a year and also owned (and currently still do) a 99 Z28 both during the same time and frequently drove both around. The 3.6 is an AWESOME machine and its pretty darn quick and it handles like a dream... It's quite an amazing car for its power, efficiency, and the lack of need for premium fuel.... but it's not going to pull a LS1 stock for stock with similar drivers and the LS1 properly maintained (given there's a significant age difference between the vehicles.)

I have many times questioned whether my 3.6 could keep up with my LS1, as it definitely has an advantage in Gearing, the problem is...the LS1 has a much bigger advantage in immediate torque and still has slightly more overall power in a chassis that weighs very similar to the V6. In short... The V6 was awesome and had alot of nice surprising moments but...it didn't have quite enough to pull on my 99 Z28.

Not sure where you are getting your numbers from, but a mildly modded LS1 running 14's is embarrassing no offense... Stock LS1's are mid to low 13 sec cars with a few freak 12 sec cars. Intake, Exhaust, Tune, and Tires and they run 12's all day long. Stock 3.6 V6 6th Gens range from low 14s the mid 13's...There's definitely potential in them and the sky is the limit when money gets involved but stock, the LS1 just plainly has too high of a torque advantage... ...especially if they were also combined with a 6spd and 3.23 rear axle gears.

All LS1 F-Bodies, regardless of trim, made around 350 HP. The manufacturer stickers were underrated from the factory by GM as to not push them into Corvette territory, however; there was no mechanical difference between the LS1 that went into the 4th Gen or the C5. They made just as much power as the C5 in that era.
