Tuner said not to touch front seal???

So in preparation of the Maggie install I grabbed everything I wanted. MM Wild catch can, Rotofab intake, 160 thermostat, TR7 plugs, MSD wires, LS3 cam seal, etc... Tuner said my seal looks perfect and said "with the system done properly I shouldn't have crankcase pressure". He said the CC will take care of it. They build plenty of 1000RWHP cars so I am trusting their judgement. Anyone differ? Car has 8K miles

Which car are you working on? Are they saying they hit 1000whp on the 2300 Maggie on the LT1?

Teddy I put an LS3 seal in mine but I was running 16 lbs of boost without enough crank case ventilation. That call is up to you and the installer, I would recommend the change since your there with the balancer off but you are running pretty low boost so it will probably be ok.

When changing a balancer we install a new seal every time for piece of mind.So it forms on the new balancer. Do you have to? no

I went with an LS3 seal also even though I'm only running around 10psi boost. That LT1 seal was like tissue paper. Even though it may hold up at low boost, I'd swap in the LS3 seal just for peace of mind. Not to mention what a pita it is to remove the balancer on these cars in the event you do have to replace the seal.

I changed mine...low boost or not the factory LT1 seal isn't very good and has been known to leak even on NA builds.

If the balance comes off then it is a good idea to change it, like Slowhawk said(This guy knows his stuff BTW!).

Thank you guys for the replies. My build is a TVS2300 with intake and exhaust. They have done quite a few of these. As for the 1000HP reference I was just referring to "other" builds. Well with that said I am going to leave it up to them.

Its pretty unanimous to change it as one noted they are very flimsy compared to the LS3.

For the ten minutes it takes to change it, it's not worth the mess it makes if it does fail.

It is a low drag low tension seal so if you look at it wrong it rolls over.

Ted.

These LT motors seem to make a ton of crank case pressure under boost. We had oil come out on a few already (bolt on LT4 cars). The LS3 seal upgrade is a good idea if you're already in there.

Unfortunately this is a very debatable topic. I had someone tell me they simply upgrade the PVC lines to 5/8" and had great results, some say no catch can, others say use a catch can, and then the whole seal controversy. I have ordered everything I feel was what is right. They didnt want to touch the seal so I am letting it go. If I post about "oil leaks" you guys can tell me "told you so" HAHA

Ha! It’s not “if” but “when” my man. Regardless, can’t wait to see your results. At the same time, your initial build will be between 530-575whp depending on you pulley. At that level, I have no doubt you will be fine. If you should decide to turn up the boost, you will be making other changes anyway and can change the seal then.
