Snow tires for SS?

Does anyone have experience driving the SS in the snow? Here in Illinois we may get a lot and we may get none, you never know. Just want to get some info on what others are doing about tires.

When I lived in Vermont, Bridgestone Blizzaks saved me over and over.

Turned car into snowplow.

Alas, I'm back home in FL and gave my set of Blizzaks away.

btw - got wheels and tires shipped from tire rack, mounted, balanced - ready to put on car..

I had them last winter in Michigan. Car did fine, no problems in the snow. I went with 18" Blizzaks.

Did you use other wheels as well? Or did you just change the tires?

doesn't that set your speedometer off with using 18 inch rims?

Went with an 18" wheel/tire package and change the entire set out in the fall.

Just as you can "plus" size wheel/tires you can "minus" size as well. In other words, you can increase or decrease the wheel diameter then change the aspect ratio of the tire so that the actual diameter of the tire remains the same regardless of the wheel size.

Will it be exact? Sometimes but even if it's off a bit it will not throw your speedo off by much. You can use a GPS on a flat stretch of road to get a pretty accurate reading of your speed after the switch. At leas this has been my experience and how I checked to see how close my speed was after the switch.

I went with Goodyear Eagle GW3's when I had my 2010 1LT, but for my '17 SS I went with Blizzak WS80s on 18" wheels. Got the same wheels as another forum member (Sport Edition P2s, I believe they're called) since he'd already confirmed they fit over the standard SS Brembo calipers.

Haven't had reason to try them yet, still far too warm, but all set for around Thanksgiving when I typically put snow tires on. Make sure you get the TPMS relearn tool.

hmmm I just put mine in the garage until spring and drive the Subaru for the winter. Although the 2012 1LT did quite well on slick roads the few times I did drive it in winter. I have since upgraded to the 2017 2SS. It will never see snowy roads.

Yep went with 245/50/18 Blizzak WS80's on seperate 18" wheels and had no problems. Even driving through a couple inches of snow it just plowed right through it with no problem.

I live in St. Louis. I removed my summer only tires and replaced with all-season. Under 2 inches I get around fine. Over 2 inches I take my wife's car.......... Bottom line, a good all season tire should serve you well.
