Well, the old one hit 44 on the highway. And it looks like with the new generation, it has picked up nearly 10% compared to similar models of the old. So 47 or 48 mpg highway seems very plausible & would certainly qualify as 'close to 50'

Sounds like there will be a Cruze RS diesel and GM may tout that as the "fun to drive" Cruze.

Whats wrong with that? It might have a little less peak hp than the gas engine but will have a lot more torque, which means more power at the low end & through the mid range -right where you want it for a car to be 'fun to drive'.

Remember, there is a difference between 'fun' and 'fast'.
