Replacing windshield with GM glass
Just wanted to share.... my windshield was cracked all along the bottom. I called my insurance (NJ Manufacturers) to do a claim and requested I get GM glass. They said they'd put in the request... sometimes they pay the difference... sometimes I have to pay the difference. They called my windshield repair shop and the shop eventually called me back saying it was declined and the difference was $120. I said I'd pay the difference to get the GM glass.
I have a $50 deductible... so $170 total for GM windshield... 2013 2SS with HUD (no remote start). Takes them 2 weeks to get from dealer. Otherwise I could have gotten the aftermarket brand which I'm sure is just fine but wanted GM glass. |

Would be great if the insurance company would replace it with what the damned car came with, but no. Not on their dime.

I need a windshield and I wish it was 170 for gm glass. I have a $500 deductible on glass (lowest they offer) and the lowest quote I've gotten was 1035. So needless to say i need to fork out $500.

With a HUD, you're making the right call going with GM glass. If they put in a Fuyao glass (what Safelite seems to use by default), even if it says it's for a HUD vehicle, it is most likely going to distort the image. I just went through this, and thankfully my insurance company took care of doing it twice. With the Fuyao glass, the image became short and stretched. I could not live with it knowing how it is supposed to look. It became a distraction more than a driving aid.

I think the actual OEM glass is Pilkington. Mine was replaced a couple years ago with it and no issues.

Yes it's Pilkington.
The replacement will not have a GM logo, but you can get the correct Pilkington glass for a bit more money. |

Had mine replaced last month and hud was dim. The other day it was normal and then went dim. Of course I thought it was the glass 'till that happened. What are the odds it would start to do that the moment I replaced the glass.
