CEL already on?

I just bought a brand new 2019 Camaro 2SS 1LE and it already has its CELs on. I saw no codes when I turned it off. When I turned it on again it was still on. It has less than 500 miles and it’s less than 2 weeks old. What should I do? I already contacted my dealership and they said it shouldn’t be on but to bring it in. Anything I should do before taking it in? Should I start a lemon already?

Wait and see what the codes are, first.

Go to autozone or oriellys or Napa or any other auto part store and they will read them for you for free.

I had a similar occurance with my 2018, in fact about 1/2 the electronics stopped working. Took it in and they determined an over-air update glitched. They redownloaded, cleared the codes and it’s been fine since.

I’ve heard that if you contact onstar you can request an over the air diagnostics test. Not sure if this is true or not.

On-Demand Diagnostics, any time

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you can’t always stay on top of your vehicle’s maintenance. We get it. OnStar is there for you if a problem occurs on the road. If the “Check Engine” light comes on or you have a concern while you’re driving, just push the blue OnStar button and ask the Advisor to run an On‑Demand Diagnostics* check. If your problem requires immediate attention, the Advisor can help you find the nearest Dealer or service provider, or send Roadside Assistance* if needed.

There is nothing you need to do but take it to the dealer. Don’t go to autozone, don’t get a scan tool, just let the dealer do their job under warranty and address is properly. If you have no idea what you’re doing and you have autozone scan and erase your code then take it to the dealer, you’re setting yourself up issues.

Cel

you can take it and have the codes read at Autozone or another parts store, just don’t let them erase anything, the cel will turn off when the issue is fixed. If under warranty have the dealer correct the issue, that’s one of the reasons we buy new.

I have a stinker for a dealer, constantly jerking maintenance customers around.

First thing I do, conveniently stop asap, and check oil and coolant levels.
If OK, I take it 7 miles down the road where I have a real crackerjack of an independent (+ good friend) plug into the diagnostic port.

No B.S., and I get a thorough check.

100%. You just paid load money for this. Take it in, and don't let them give anything but 1LE or something of equal or greater value for a loaner. I had them pull off a brand new 1LE off the lot for me, for 1 day service. I hope its software update like others have said
