Yup. I agree with Spike. How much more freakin weight are they gonna put in cars?

The Gov. mandates safety, and then mandates efficeincy.

It's the theory of relateivity.

actually my reasoning is based on my hypocritical, self-biased views that we save too many lives and that we are overpopulating this planet.
and I'm a strong proponent of Advanced Darwinism.... kill the stupid ones before they can reproduce

am I joking? ?

Eventually the entire cabin will fill with airbags, and they will also be deployed all around the car to protect agains secondary collisions with trees, posts, other cars, pedestrians, etc after the initial hit with another car.

Spike, its called eugenics

DGthe3- I don't know if you realize how close to true that is. There are people working on that concept of minimizing void space in a wreck. They have some new conforming airbags that blow more softly with less noxious crap in them to go over your head in a roll over, now the seatbelts in back...

So you have side head restraint, *possibly over head restraint soon*, knee restraint, steering wheel/dash, seat bolster, rear seatbelt, what am I missing?

In the meantime- let me tell you that one of the funnest things you can do on a Saturday afternoon is take gen 1 airbags, put just about anything under 30lbs on top of it, and then set it off and watch the object fly.

*edit* and as far as the technology goes, my thoughts are pretty ambivalent. I'm a huge believer in seatbelts, and I do believe side restraints can be helpful. The front airbags seem to not come into play nearly as much as the side airbags assuming a correctly adjusted seatbelt. I can't believe the seatbelt restraint would be overly useful.

I didn't know that, but when I thought of all that I at first I was "Nah ... we won't ... well maybe ... yup, gonna happen "
