Melted parts

Ran my 2021 ZL1 1le at the Sebring track in Florida this weekend. After the second 30 minute session the reflector strips above the exhaust tips had gotten so hot they curled up. Looked like two horns sticking out. Running AWE touring exhaust. Dealer said they have never seen this so not sure if they'll cover this or not. No big deal if they dont but wondering if anyone else has had this happen

You might need to check the exhaust tip adjustment.

With the stock NPP exhaust the mode can affect heat build-up and has been shown to melt the entire rear bumper if not in Track mode. The manual speaks to this.

I have the AWE Track Edition, track the car and have never had that problem. Are you sure the tips are securely fastened to the pipes. If exhaust is escaping at that connection, the reflectors are just above that and may be the problem.

Just pull the exhaust tips a bit further out. I had the exact same thing happening to my Mustang after I installed an aftermarket exhaust. Replace the reflectors, adjust the exhaust tips and you're all set.

For what it's worth about the warranty. It has been stated that GM will cover any damages to the car while its at the road course as long as the car is completely stock. That doesn't mean damages from a crash.

Um i don't see the relevance of you statement to this thread he has an aftermarket exhaust.

If you reread the OPs post, he said the dealer wasn't sure if they could cover it.

I was just stating what GM had said about covering damages to the vehicle while at the track since a couple of people already gave him a response on why this would happen.

Seeing as what it is, I don't see why they wouldn't as those pieces are probably a few dollars.

Curious if the OP found a solution for this. I’ve melted my 3rd set of reflectors today. Also running AWE touring exhaust. Granted the reflectors are a cheap part to replace, it is pretty annoying to have to do after every track day.

Pull the tips out, you most likely have them in too far or you don't have proper seal on them and exhaust is leaking. I have AWE Track Edition and never had any issues.

I’ve pulled the tips out as far as I can, stick out about 2” now. Can you elaborate more on the seal?

If exhaust leaks around the seal where the tips mount to the pipes, you'll get hot exhaust gases on your plastic bits... which can melt them.
