Track Warranty + Catback
Will a catback without a tune void the track warranty?
Coming from base SS to 1le now - planning to track soon and looking at picking up an axleback but have seen several posts around here stating that Al O., chief engineer of Camaro / [alpha platform?] program explicitly said track warranty only applies if bone stock. Wondering if anyone has experience with this. I know for a fact it doesn't matter on the street because I blew halfshafts on my old car with secondary cat deletes and an axleback but haven't tracked a 6th gen with exhaust mods. Quite a redundant question it would seem but not many cars have track warranties (even though Camaro's seems to be a gentleman's agreement) so wondering if same rules apply. Thanks all edit: link to post where originally stated: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=491663 #10 user Tjay74

My engine decided to commit suicide on track last April, I had a catch can and cat-back exhaust and they didn’t seem to care. Approved the new engine in a couple days and had the car back two weeks later.

Too there's a huge hole there from dealer to dealer of how they view certain things. For that reason I'd think meeting with the service manager at whatever dealer you expect to be visiting with a catastrophic event. There's certainly the viewpoint that you did X to it and now we won't touch and you're in for a fight.

The question was asked of Al right after GM started offering the CAI and catback systems at the OE / Dealer level. As said he originally said bone stock is the only way they would warranty, then it was brought up you could order a SS 1LE with the CAI kit and a catback both installed at the dealer. After that Al revised and said if those were the only mods the warranty would stay in tact.
So if GM is going to allow a CAI and a catback at the dealer level they will no choice but to warranty the same mods if the owner goes say the Roto-Fab and some other brand catback route.

That's not what AL said. Al said that if you have the application correct GMPP installed, the warranty will still be in effect. They can deny a warranty claim because of an aftermarket product that alters the factory system, a drop in filter will not void the warranty. Keep in mind that installing the nearly identical CAI intake could void the warranty, even though it appears they make the intake for GMPP, because the GMPP updated engine calibration isn't done. The GMPP intake states that the new engine calibration is required.

Not true at all. GM is offering to extend their warranty on specifically listed parts, that doesn't mean all parts are covered.

Already have a secondary cat delete so I guess that would already void my powertrain warranty on track according to this if it drops a valve

No smack at all, I also emailed Al personally myself (my dad worked for GM so I was able to get Al's email address). Legally GM cant allow the use of a dealer installed performance part and then deny coverage if the consumer chooses to purchase a similar performance part from a 3rd party manufacture. That is a huge reason behind and why the Magnuson Moss warranty act was implemented. It has also been argued and won that as long as the consumer only modifies the exhaust after the cats and past the post O2 sensors that it doesnt and wont change the power levels enough to invalidate the manufacture warranty. I am 46 years old, have owned nothing but GM vehicles since I was 15 years old with plenty of them being new and modified along the way, have battled the battle with GM warranty coverage and won as well. A CAI and a catback isnt going to change anything enough that the warranty wont cover the failure.

The Magnuson-Moss act covers this, not a GM engineer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus...s_Warranty_Act |

This is entirely false. They are only responsible to cover thier own brand of products, not any third party components.
