I heard a lot of good things about the 10-speed. There was a ZL1 owner that told me that he couldn't even believe it wasn't a DCT(salesperson told him it's a DCT, you know how your average salesperson is...).

I feel like I should give it a try sometime. I am a manual guy but I would just like to get a feel for it.

Swapped out some plastic and “leather” trim piece with OEM alcantara trim. My 12 year old daughter did an awesome job changing the dash alcantara piece from having red stitching to black. She used a fabric marker and did two passes yesterday, and one more this morning. You would never know it was red. I really like the difference, especially with the alcantara wheel, seat inserts, shifter boot, etc. it was a fun father daughter project too.

Freddy's is a chain that started in Illinois, I feel like they are a cross between Steak & Shake and Culver's... Burgers & fries are like Steak & Shake and frozen custard like Culver's...

I used to love IN-N-OUT before I lived here, now... meh...

Ok.. How the heck do you know where you are supposed to go next amongst all those cones?

The ones lying down are “pointer cones”, so they point which side of the single cone you need to go. Otherwise, there are gates that you just drive through, and walls of pointers kind of direct you. I usually walk the course 2-3 times before driving, and with COVID, our region started doing parade laps where we follow a pace car basically. Usually they have instructors ride with newbies but they stopped that with the pandemic.

It looks like a lot, but after doing a bunch you get used to it and it’s just about making sure you don’t go the wrong way on any particular course. Sometimes they will also lines the outside edges of the “track” in flour so you can better tell. We had about 15-20 DNFs (you get a DNF for missing a gate / slalom or going off course) over two days between 80 cars doing 5 runs each

Ah.. pointer comers. I just thought they were hit and knocked over, but that makes sense. Sure looks like a lot of fun.

I could never do autocrossing because I'd always get lost. They had like 6 cones up for the whole track and no matter how much I walked it, i wouldn't remember.

When I do the local ones, we have two groups. One does the runs while the other volunteers and watches out for the cone and radios the organizer if someone hits them. The volunteers then run out and put the cone back. You usually only have at most 2 cars on the track at the same time, and they are far apart enough that you could put the cone back to place quickly.

For me, the key is not to chit-chat too much during the coursewalk.

When I did it the first time in my RX-8, I got a DNF for the first 3 runs(out of 8 total) because I kept screwing up and went the wrong way, and that was the result of me talking too much to people and not paying attention to the course walk.
