Noise, and more noises.. parking brake

So I discovered that going around right turns I would hear a tick every wheel revolution like there was a rock or nail in the tire, but more of a metallic "tink" . Pretty loud. But only around harder right turns (like scrubbing tires at 15 mph). Completely goes away when I go straight. I looked at the tire but didn't find anything obvious, but it's hard to see the whole tire.

Any ideas?

I figured maybe I should make sure all the lugs are properly torqued as I haven't checked them since I got the car. Well they were, but in the process two new noises from the rear showed up when the car rocked back and forth while torquing the wheel.

How does the parking brake work on these cars? I assume the noise has something to do with that, but I was surprised the car rolled that much. The car was not in gear and I confirmed the brake was on.. So it would seem the parking brake isn't as much a parking brake as a parking pawl?? I've had electric parking brake cars before and they usually actuate a rear brake caliper.

As someone that has had brake failure, I don't like the idea of these electronic parking brakes.. and now that I know it's not actually a brake, I like it even less. Has anyone tried to apply it while moving?

I think it’s the common issue a lot of these cars have, as did mine. They have to remove the wheels make sure they’re clean put them back on and re-torque them.

Mine still holds the car well, I checked the same thing with my torque wrench and the car almost doesn't "rock" at all, certainly nowhere near what your video shows.

Based on the descriptions in the service manual, the parking brake is operated by an electric motor that is shut off when a certain rotational position is reached, and the system has an adjuster to achieve the desired tension. Not sure if this can be done in a garage, GM specifies a "clearance gauge" tool for the adjustment... I'd just take it in.

There is a brake shoe setup that sits inside the rear rotor, which acts like a brake drum.

I had a similar noise on my 5th gen. 2011 SS. Would only do it on right hand turns. It was happening after installing new wheels and tires, the e-brake cable (a lot of slack) ended up hitting the wheel weights on the right rear. But I don't see anything in the 6th gen that could cause something similar. Hope you can figure it out.

OK, that configuration I'm used to seeing.

So this is the rear noise.

I don't think that's the same noise I hear when I turn. I thought the noise I was hearing was from the front, but maybe not.

The rear noise is definitely the pin (has flat head like a nail) that comes through the back that holds the shoes with some spring clips. Apparently the shoes move enough to change the angle of the pin and that angle change of the head causes a noise against the backing plate. I don't have the special tool but I do have a giant caliper. I ended up tightening the adjuster quite a bit. Still spins freely when the brake is off, but definitely doesn't move around as much when on. Still makes the noise, just not as bad

Kinda odd that they say use the special clearance tool, then they tell you to manually tighten it until it drags and back it off.

Even odder is my car doesn't have a "window" in the backing plate that would allow you to adjust the shoe adjuster once the rotor is on. Maybe the manual page is for the non 1LE?

I double-checked, these are the first and the only park brake adjustment pages, the next page is the general description of how the EPB system works, and that concludes the Brakes section of the manual. Sorry, this is all I could find
