Re Spray?

Long story short. My front bumper looks like the Milky Way. Insurance deducible is $50. Aside from the cost.... do you guys think having it re painted is worth effort? It’s a black car. I’m afraid the paint match will never be quite as good as the factory. Also slightly worried about possible resale value being affected. Curious of everyone’s thoughts. The car doesn’t get daily driven anymore and I will have it Xpel’d after paint(yea yea yea I know too little too late)

Find a good painter. Paint job should easily be better than factory. Just come prepared with the correct paint codes and there shouldn't be any problems. I had a new hood installed recently. Paint job was an exact match and looked stock.

I suggest removing the bumper cover and having it repainted off the vehicle. This will enable the bodyshop to remove the various components attached to the bumper cover (e.g., the upper and lower grilles), which ensures an optimal repaint of the bumper cover and eliminates the possibility of overspray on the vehicle. If anyone claims the bumper cover won't match the rest of the vehicle, don't listen to them.

A good painter, or just a decent one even, should be able to match it up perfectly with no problem at all. I say go for it.

Yep, respray it. I’ve had it done in the past, both on the car and off (same car and bumper, city living). Both times it came out great....you just have to find the right shop.

You might be following people too closely if you're getting lots of rock chips. I say this coming from decades of riding motorcycles, it's something you notice over time

After you get it resprayed, don't forget to get a clear mask (PPF) installed to protect it. I was able to fill and buff my rock chips thankfully (its not perfect) but I installed a pre-cut PPF mask from invisiblemask.com. If you've never done it before, get a pro to do it.

Have it painted, it shouldn't run you that much and I agree that taking the bumper cover off is the right thing to do.

Get it done by a good body shop and it won’t be on a Carfax report and won’t effect resale value.

If you plan on trading it in soon, I'd leave it alone. All original is always better than repainted. The reason I say this is because they won't know if the car had been in an accident with a repainted bumper. If it's original, even though it's pitted, no one could argue that it might've been wrecked in the past.

If you plan on keeping it, then I'd get the bumper repainted. Over on the 'bay, you can buy brand new prepainted bumpers. However, I don't if they have them for 6th gens yet. Be good to check anyway though.

Of all these things changing how you drive has something to do with things. You can't sand blast the front of a car to the point of repainting it with anything except how you drive. Even with a PPF you'll be back to this same point, eventually, if you don't examine how you're making this happen.

I was in the same boat as you. At 7k miles, I had over 5 dozen chips. The icing on the cake was when the edge of one of those chips banana peeled a strip of the paint as I washed the car. Not only that, but there was blue paint underneath. Long story short... I went back to the dealer and argued that this is NOT normal wear, as it absolutely should not be chipping this bad, and had them redo the front under warranty. I then Xpel'd the front bumper afterwards.

You're at under 3 years, and assuming under 36k miles. Have them pay for poor paint quality.

Just to be clear, I got stuck behind a f***** scavenger tuck full of pea gravel. I was a good 10 cars back. But regardless it bugs the hell outta me. Seems like everyone is on the same page that a respray is a good route. Also not sure the dealer is gonna even hear me on a warranty issue regarding paint, but who knows. Anyone in the bay are with experience with other shops would be greatly appreciated. I’m looking at J.P. auto body in south San Francisco. Owner seemed very knowledgeable and he’s a Vette owner
