Dash Cam and OBD II power cable?

I was wondering if this would work in my 2023 Camaro. Curious as the dash cam says 2A and the power cable says 3A.
I attached a pic of each. I already bought the camera but now want something different than the cigarette lighter due to where it is located.
Any help appreciated.

I haven't ever seen anything powered by ODB2 other than a AFM module, but its worth a shot to buy it and see if it powers up the camera, if it doesn't just return it. I would be concerned about draining the battery however.

I actually found one with quite a few good reviews and its only 2.1A. I'm gonna give it a try. As for the power, switch 'on' and it'll shutoff 5 min. after car is powered off. Switch 'off' and it stays on for parking surveillance and shuts off when battery is at 11.6V. Will prolly only use it in the 'on' position as the car is always parked in my garage.

Should work because GM Parts sells a dashcam powered by OBD

Correct about battery. I have the same setup, via obd2 dashcam and also use parking mode feature.

For daily use such as to work, parking mode is not a problem, only when the car sits for more than a day without use, then the parking mode can drain the battery, or if you dont use parking mode shouldn't be a problem at all.

I disconnect at the dashcam itself when im not using the car for a few days.

OP, Go for it, you should be good to go with the OBD cable.

With my camaro I ran the power right to the USB in the center console but on 3 other cars at my house I have the dash cams running off OBD plugs exactly like this and they work just fine

Op, I purchased the same one. It did not work for me as it refused to power off the camera. I removed it and chucked it in a junk drawer. Waste of money imo.

Contact https://www.gen5diy.com/. They make cables for dash cams and radar detectors that don’t use the OBD II port. If they don’t have one for your dash cam they can make one up for you.

Their newest additions are dash cam harnesses pre-designed for USB-C/Micro-B/Mini-B which I believe hits practically all of the dash cams power sources on the market: https://www.gen5diy.com/collections/...ted-descending

I have have an Escort Maxcam 360c which is a radar detector and dash cam. It uses an RJ45 power connector. It is powered off of a connector on the passenger side. Wiring is hidden.

I actually bought this one since the cable is 2.1V and the camera is 2.0V.

Here is my issue.....I just took the car for a 4 hour road trip, each way. When I have it in the 'O' position, the camera shuts off after 5-10 minutes. If I have it in the '-' position, the camera works fine and shuts off about 5 minutes after turning the car off.
If you look at the description, this cable isn't supposed to do that, although, when in the '-' position, thats what I want it to do.
Why does the camera shut off while driving when in the 'O' position?
Faulty cable or does it have somethintg to do with the parking surveillance mode?
I was also checking the battery voltage while driving and it never dropped below 12.3V at any time.....And up to 14.1V at times.
